tapping a blind hole

i need to tap threads into a shallow blind hole..can i grind the tap flat on the end so i get threads all the way to the end

Just buy a proper plug/bottoming tap.

You can but proper tap is best

ive got a 3rd tap or whatever theyre called ..it still has some taper on the end

If you've used a standard drill bit for drilling the hole, that will cut all the way to the bottom of the usable hole.

well tap that as far as it will go and grind some of the end and finish off with it if your not bothered about the tap

You can grind a drill bit toa nearly flat profile for finish off drilling holes with a flat bottom to get you a couple more threads engaged when using a plug tap.
I guess its something thin under a lot of stress, got the room around the thread area for a timesert without weakening what the thread goes into?

If you're tapping with a blind hole and want to go full depth then you need a plug tap.

as pointed out by mat the plug tap would go to the depth that the drill will go to . grinding the end of the plug tap on a 10mm will gain u 3.0mm extra thread but as mr fluffy pointed out u would need to grind the drill flat as the taper on the end of the drill is also 3.0mm
