Well that's an engineer talking, I fabricate to half a mil, an astrology talks in light years. Make of that what you will.I cringe at the tolerances builders and wood workers use. I'm not happy unless it is under a thou
True. Buy better tape measuresBut its a problem ordering new double glazed units.
I recently measured with a 24 ich steel rule and a forge tape and got two different measurement lists. So I ended up going to the cutters with my tape and checking...as it was the tape was accurate to theirs.
Hook the tape at a slight abgle. To lay them flat. Both of them are cut too short. One is an 1/8th off the other is missing 1/16th. Bad batch I assume. The engineers method for measuring (using a ruler) is to lose an inch and measure from a marked line and not from the end. An exception to that rule (!) is if you're using a hook rule but they're generally only available in the 'states for some bizarre reason.
I use a double sided tape measure and they are dead handy because 1. you can read the measure from either side and 2. if you use it upside down, the curved body of the rule is touching the surface so you can run a pencil line. With a typical tape measure, the body bends up so there's a gap which leads to parallax error as the pencil or marker pivots on the raised edge.

Tollerances won't be very different from fabricators
+-1mm is acceptable.I've just built a large cupboard/wardrobe with 6 bifold doors for me dear old mam.
I set myself a tolerance of +/-1mm and (mostly) hit it.
I think that's reasonable, track saw helps infinitely.
I've yet to meet a tradesman that would get anywhere near that, I know they exist I've just never had the pleasure.
very smart job.+-1mm is acceptable.
Tallest door I balsed up. Can you spot it.
Customer stopped me to ask a question and messed up a measure.
Thankfully got around it and within a mm or two.
I keep a ready supply of filler paint and wax in the van. Gets you out of troubleYes very nice, I'll do some pictures of mine when I've finished painting.
Filler and paint make me the joiner I ain't.
Really lovely job Sir, and what is your view on the longevity of those drawer runners. That's a question rather than a criticism,, - just thinking about the weight or potential thereof.+-1mm is acceptable.

Was alright for feathers mgraw...How its made program did a prog on recoil tapes. The margin of error is massive.
Well in fairness, 7mm over 7m, to extrapolate (1/1000), is the sort of accuracy that fizzy is looking forChecking diagonals on a single garage build with two tapes - could tell things weren't quite right by eye but the measurements on both tapes were telling me things were spot on with regards to the numbers until I put the tapes side by side
