Mate. I don't use carpenters pencils when I'm doing finish work. Freshly sharpened pencilEspecially since a sharpie is not even accurate to a millimetre.

I use the 5 and 8 metre basic Stanley one. Can't be doing with massive chunky tapes that won't fit in my pocket.
As for magnetic ends, might be alright for home, but In a fab shop environment they're no help at all.
Every time you want to measure something you have to brush the dust hedgehog off the end.
I'm the same here, I always push the magnets out.
You didn't need it
I’m glad your not fitting my kitchenI don't use tape measures any more, to much margin of error. I use 1mm drill bits side by side.

One I'm currently fitting needs more precision than usual. Thankfully I checked the new manual before quoting and allowed a chunk of extra time.I’m glad your not fitting my kitchen
That sounds a lot like wood bothering to me, a skill I have never posessedMate. I don't use carpenters pencils when I'm doing finish work. Freshly sharpened pencil

Once again, I feel obliged to point out that the only people I've ever heard care about tape measure class 1/2, is on this very forum in the real world its not an issue.

Out of curiosity have you ever tried using a knife for marking? Even a Stanley?
As we have been doing more and more cabinet making I noticed a big increase in accuracy and precision when using a knife mark vs a sharp pencil line.
I like Stanley Tylon, the 3 metre one does nearly everything I need. Anything under 600mm though I tend to use a steel rule if possible.I now use the stanley tylon tapes, 2 for £10 in screwfix!
I use a stanley to scribe around hinges pre routing.
For marking off a tape a sharp pencil still serves me well and can be as fine and precise as a knife line.
They do the way I use em.Knives don't wear down nearly as quick though!

First fix a carpenters pencil goes a long way on a single sharpen
First fix you could mark your timber with a brick though.
