Have you been watching me do joinery?
You'd be better than most I'm sure.
Some work out there is staggeringly bad.

That's how I was taught in wood work at school many years ago Flat blade ground on one side so you could run it along something and the mark would be on the edge.Out of curiosity have you ever tried using a knife for marking? Even a Stanley?
As we have been doing more and more cabinet making I noticed a big increase in accuracy and precision when using a knife mark vs a sharp pencil line.
Only time I've had to use something like that was for a skirting system that's fitted pre plasterboard and the skirting sits flush with the wall. Looked good but I was fitting it in a block wall.I get dragged into a bit of wood butchery now and then.
Had an agency joiner on site, he wanted us to buy the 300x300mm internal and external corners for Encasement (like Pendock), at £60 each I told him to mitre it.
He left site, I finished the job with a helper, didnt buy one pre finished corner

For the plastic trunking type stuff I'd probably want to use the mitre joints for longevity tbf to the chap
Its all wood, the plastic stuff is terrible
Plus £60 for a corner piece, not happening
That's the beauty of the imperial system. You halve your way down, with reference points on either side. Metric, you get down to 5mm and its a guess after that.I used to work in sixteenth's then when my eyesight started going it went to eighth's now it's quarters. Its costing a fortune in welding wire.
