After fitting a LPG conversion i thought the gas tank was a bit exposed underneath the shogun so decided to make a tank guard.
I found a piece of 6mm plate and some scrap angle iron in the garage
Chopped it into 3 pieces (which took ages and went thru quite a few cutting discs!)
I used a bit of carboard to roughly work out where to put the bends and then transfered the markings on to the steel. Used up a few more cutting discs cutting most the way thru the plate to make it easier to bend. Clamped it in the vice and then started swinging on it to bend it to shape!
Getting the plates to the same shape took quite a bit of trial and error but got there in the end
I drilled holes in 2 pieces of angle iron and used the orininal tank bolts at the front and had already made a mount for the rear. Then loosely bolted them up and started lining up the plates. Once the plates were looking ok i clamped them up and then tacked them in place.
At this point i gave Em a 5 minute welding class
Her 3rd and 4th attempt
Then after checking it still fitted i fully welded it all up
And now its bolted up
Not dressed any of the welds or painted it yet but needed to get it on ready for some P&P action tomorrow. If it survives ill be taking it off and give it a couple coats of hammerite.
