That’s a bit of pain in the crack then isn’t it. I guess it’ll have to come apart sooner rather than later, sorry about that.

Yeah, not my machine though and not my dime. I've already advised the company they need to look at replacing one of the machines or having it refurbished.

Right well after hours messing around with an ancient old 4 jaw held in a 3 jaw yesterday, the company can see the advantage of soft jaws so they are ordering another set.
I did hint to them to buy two or three sets but one set is all we are getting it seems.

I guess the other viable option is to ask them to buy a grip-tru or set-tru three jaw.

Not sure, if they are it will be a more expensive route initially but cheaper in the long run as the soft tops will be way cheaper than scroll soft jaws and also easy enough to make your own soft tops if required.

Had one, was a PITA compared to soft jaws, just as well with a 4 jaw.

I doubt i'll be making anything, I'm here subbing for this company so they just want as much chargeable work out of the door as possible whilst i'm there.

Two new sets arrived

Had to knock 60 degrees off the corners to get the jaws close enough to bore for a ⅞" shaft.

Runout was less than 0.0005" after boring.

Interestingly one of the jaws was miles out from the other two. Like a good 20-30 thou before that jaw started to clean up - you can see the narrower contact patch on the tips.

Maybe the chuck needs a clean.
