Yup I know a fella with the katsu he really likes it

I bought one of there laminate routers. Used it once and wasn't impressed in the slightest. Replaced it straight away. Sounded like the bearings were knackered and struggled to keep torque up

The nut on the 700w Metabo I have is too big, apart from that is is excellent.

The die grinders I have are fairly smooth for brushed stuff.
The mini 3"grinder I have really sounds like a bag of nails.
They are all PRC made to a price and badged Katsu imported by Aim tools in Luton

So there is going to be a bit of pot luck involved.

Aim were excellent with my cockup on the shears, refund/return/replacement. Would have been well within their right to refuse or make me pay post, but it was smooth and pleasant. I recommend them!

I'd avoid the 3 jaw chuck types as chucks are not so secure and a little iffy at these sort of speeds..

Ideally, and something I would pay premium for, would be to have an ER11/16 type chuck, instead of the horrible 3 split collets. Collet adaptors are no good for smaller bits - I made up a 6mm shank ER11 collet chuck just for the die grinder.

Variable speed is a must. You can get external SCR units for that cheap enough.

My Lidl one works ok, cost me only £8 with a clearance sticker, but is extremely grabby with larger burrs. That may be me, or the way I use it. So I generally prefer using mounted stones over burrs. If pushed, they explode but if paitent they work very well without grabbing.

Recently been abusing mine with a tyre ball, to eat the kevlar/steel ply out of some climbing shoe repair patches.

Fed up of Chinese burrs losing their teeth. Even the more expensive ones are still made in China. Then I came across Garryson after being mentioned on this forum. I thought they would be really expensive but they aren't. Made in Britain and really nice to use.
My Lidl air die grinder died after about 2 hours use. I bought a cheap and cheerful replacement branded PCL.

It is brilliant. Much more powerful than the lidl one. Hopefully will last longer. Nice to use.

Fed up of Chinese burrs losing their teeth.

Generally means running them too slow. I've got lots of chinese and cant fault them. I can fault my 12mm garryson 9700 as its chipped, far too agressive and likes to grab.

ShopAPT burrs are good cheap ones, in my opinion.

Just have a) Bosch drill b) Black & Decker strimmer and c) Lidl impact wrench.

I did a 'watch this item' on an eBay one and messaged the Seller [allegedly based in Burton-on-Trent] asking why they wouldn't post to the Highlands. Before I've had a reply I received a 'Buy it Now' offer at £40.84 with free postage. Went to pay and got a message that the Seller doesn't post the the Scottish Highlands and to contact them to get a price...... Something's rotten in the state of Denmark as Bill Shakespeare wrote.

Clearly a drop shipping address but it appealed for the wattage and 6-speeds. I've been looking at the Katsu ones as suggested by @Gragson but the short-nose has a drill chuck when I'd prefer a collet type with the long nose, but no-one appears to want to ship to 'up here' anyway.

The search continues - Lidl are bound to have theirs back soon..........

In a previous reincarnation I used to do a good deal of cylinder head porting and air die grinders were the order of the day. Nowadays I do still have a use for a die grinder but I use a little 12volt Milwaukee which is excellent. If I was buying a mains powered die grinder today I would buy the Makita one.

the katsu one is ok i have one rarely use it as i use the milwakee M18 one or the baby M12 right angle mostly unless I have lots to do then its the air ones

try and get one of these they are geared down a bit note the offset spindle collets are 6 and 8mm fixed 7000 rpm 110v bound to be lots of them at the car boot sales around invermgregor

also air is worth considering it you have a largish compressor . and the rpm can be set by adjusting the screw opposite the handle as in the photo
metabo is good too
