Talk of power cuts?

Smart meters in this part of the world, can shut off your power, so that the power company can prioritize users.
I personally find the concept troubling.

I find it worrying as well, I have a normal meter but have been trying to move to a smart meter in order to access cheaper split tariffs to no avail. Lack of bodies to swap meters, not sure what happened to all the targets to get people to switch.

On the radio the news was saying gov / energy companies are discussing incentivising smart meter owners to lower usage at peak time during winter 17:00-20:00.

A back door way of getting Tarif of Use - or whatever it's called - which energy co's. would not happen in this country.

As I have a 3 phase meter installed, it can't be changed until my supplier starts doing smart 3 phase meters (I believe SSE are installing them now), although looking up my meter (elster A1140) shows it can have a module fitted for remote reading, I doubt it will connect to either smet1 or smet2 systems
