Tailstock mt taper

Does the Colchester only have a 1MT tailstock? I had assumed it was the ML10 you were trying to modify.

The mellor lathe has the mt1. That's the lathe I am working on at the moment

A few pictures .I got to trim back my mt1 chuck taper as it's to long and rejects before the quill is seated home. The quill is roughly 25mm od .and has a wall thickness of about 7.5mm. I got mt1 tooling that's fine. But got some mt3 stuff too.

I'd say 25mm is too small.

Yes. There is not a massive amount of material there. I stick mt1 and use the adapters if needed .

I been banned off of eBay from the Mrs. But she don't no about the courier I need to get for an item I brought from Bristol .I just can't be bothered with the 3hr drive from Colchester

is there enough metal left for a MT3 socket. I'd be weary of the morse taper arbour working like a wedge in the socket, causing that to expenand and seize the quill into the tailstock. on my hobbymat, I've got a MT1 socket and the quill is 25mm diameter, I wouldnt even try to modify that to take a MT2 socket.

how about modifying the tailstock to take a larger diameter quill?
