Tacking with mig then tig'ing...

I've tried this a couple of times in the past with varying results, usually I grind the mig tacks flush then do short tig runs but there's usually a nasty reaction when i reach a tacked area.... So is this just me lol?

I can't recall the specific reasons i used the mig first, i think it's usually to save time lining up body work panels.

I can't help you on this one, I've done the same many a time, and not had a problem. It will be interesting to read the replies

I've seen the same thing, not always but sometimes and most often when someones tacked up stainless with argoshield, especially if they've 'missed' with the first attempt and ended up with a snotty mess. Usually just appears as a bit of crap in the weld pool.

Spitting and bubbling, basically contamination. It's about time i bought a new reel of wire for the mig anyway so will try that first...

In fact i'll try a few experiments this week to see if i can narrow down the circumstances which lead to the problem, just needed to know if i should be persevering or not!

Odd that, because mig tacking combined with gas welding works very well.
