I`ve been to my favourite scrapyard today and picked up a nice 4' x 2' x 3/8" piece of plate, with which to make a welding table; I`ve made a 2' x 4' rectangular frame out of 4" x 2" box; mitred and welded tidily at corners.
The plate and the mitred-frame are nice and true/flat; I wondered about the best way to weld the top-plate to the frame whilst minimising warpage.
Obviously, I can begin by tacking....but, is it best to begin proper welding runs in the middle of the sides, running a 'balanced' sequence of shorter beads (on opposite sides), working towards the corners, gradually joining them up, rather than long runs all on one side/edge?

CSK set screws. You could guarantee that coach bolt heads would interfere with every single thing you make.
