That's not Rexy, its Dennis the Dinosaur
I cut one of those out on my CNC Wood Router last year!
If you look on the 'Net, there are loads of other great models like that available
It's a dinosaur!.
Nice one, I have wondered about doing this kind of thing. Let him go rusty rather than painting him.
How much does he weigh?
Chunko'.
That's my mates plan! Leave him in the garden to rust in peace.
Not that heavy, I can comfortably lift it, OK I'm a big bloke but even so. Took two of us to put him in the back of the car, but that was more for control than weight.
The shet used wasn't as big as you'd think, the CNC operator carefully layed out the patterns so that very little was wasted. Hell I have the off cuts in my 'scrap' pile now, you never know.....
I sold those kits on the Sunday market for a full summer until too many of the other traders started to sell them cheaper.
There's about 40 different models to go at so plenty of scope for more projects.
I did consider making the kits out of metal but only as far as similar sizes to the wooden ones, ie, about a foot high. That wouldn't really work as there are too many small parts to cut and a 'punter' would have problems getting them to fit together where we could just file or grind it until it worked.
However, ramping up the size is a different thing...
supplying a range of items as garden ornaments where you'd build, deliver and install might work.
Imagine someon with a small pond with a smaller pond a few feet away and 'stream' between with a four foot long model of Tower Bridge over it.
The trick would be working out the cost. The good news is you'd not need to make/sell many in a month to get a decent income, and especially if it was part time while you have a full time job. It'd pay the morgage every month!
You could definitely sell them , the hard thing would be finding customers, but priced well into four figures it would be a runner. have a look on line for Dinosaur parks there are at least two in the Uk that I was dragged to by junior. At this kind of scale it would be worthwhile looking at adding details such as claws etc.
Good luck with it.
