My linisher keeps turning off after a few seconds,there is a bit of vibration though that’s always been present,I cleaned the movable contact and blew the dust out,but that’s the extent of my observation,any help appreciated please.

You really need to see what current the motor is pulling first, could be the shading coil, sometimes the ends get dirty and dont make a good contact, those little white pads where the 3 overload coils are fitted are asbestos if you didnt know

ooo sh,it dont let the health and safety guys see them big £££££ to have them removed .last lot i had went in the bin best using a clamp meter to test the amperage of the motor it could be either motor or the trip coils faulty

Definitely not a good idea looking at the internals of that gear.

Bin the contactor it's ancient.

there fetching a fortune honestly if there in working order

Thanks for the interest everyone,how do I go about investigating repairing it ,or is it best left to an electrical engineer,ps I have a mate .

Can you see if there is any correlation between the load applied by the motor and the amount of time the contactor stays on?

Either try it with the belt removed or wire it up to a smaller motor altogether. The alternative motor would also eliminate the linisher's one as the source of the problem.

Is it single phase or three phase?

The contactor is for three phase and I think for single phase, not only do you have to use a coil of the correct voltage (which clearly you have or it would not work at all) you also have to wire the overloads differently.

Single phase. It doesn’t stop with the drive belt removed,could it be vibration,the linisher belt is cantilevered several inches outboard of the drive belt pulley,although I’ve used this almost daily for 21 years.
