I think the set I have are SWA also, though they may be Ideal, I had them on an end of line clearance.

Careful though, when you read the small print in the instructions it says not to be used to cut the steel on SWA cable or something like, & I checked several makes and they all said the same.
I simply ignore the instructions, they still work fine!

Do you mean these? Used to have a set in a place where I used to work, used them on bigger cable but never on swa type cable.

Very quick but the knipex ones cost a fortune (£400 for the bigger sizes)

they are the exact ones i have seen being used. Make very light work of the armoured cable the contractors were cutting

I think you can get them from other places, rs are a bit pricey if you are buying your own gear.

Just checked on amazon and they do similar, (ratchet cable cutter) for a bit less £££.

My ratchet shears are Ampliversal and cut upto 1½" wouldn't risk using them on SWA though.
Got some VDE cutters that will do upto 95mm² I use for welding cable, don't know what make they are, apparently they're standard BT issue

Knipex ones are good, they do the stripping and cutting as well. I tend to Only use them occasionally, Not day in day out but they work fine for me.

No worries, I also got a little tester box you plug in one end and can test the cable, cos I cocked up so many crimps! That was worth it's weight in gold, rather than spending hours wondering why things wouldn't communicate only to find it was my gash crimping!!

Total in Newport will sell them, I looked at the ones they have in Swansea, that they use to cut the SWA in the warehouse, they ignore the instructions too and theirs are fine, Swansea sell Haupa, so perhaps Newport can do you a deal?

Used a good one at my last place, it had 8 "remote" boxes about the size of PP9 battery and a master unit which could identify the cable number, how long the run was and if all the cores were terminated in correct order, probably a bit pricey though

I know the type you mean - Probably great for the hardcore networker type people but for the stuff I Do I just need to know the right wires are poked in the right holes and the crimp is made ok! I'd still like one just because I'm a sucker for shiny gadgets, but I don't think I could justify it! ( having said that I'm finding more and more stuff using cat 5/6 cable nowadays. Last week I replaced 2 vacuum switches that used cat 5 cable and rj45 connections)

lol i wired 5 computer rooms up in a school 30 data points in each . i got the i,t guy to terminate them all couldnt be ar,.,.r to do them 240 and 415v is nicer to work on
