Suzuki Swift Gti Mk2 Ph1 1992

Hi All

Now I have made my intro on the newbie page I thought I would shift the project build over to the correct section, I originally had a Swift GTI 10 years ago when I was 18 sold it and have had other cars since, but I still had a soft spot for them so bought one to restore, never done a car resto before so totally new to it all, the car itself has only done 68K and I am the 3rd owner but a common issue with 90s Japanese cars they rot, after removing the skirts (THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL) lol I discovered they have been hiding some fairly bad corrosion, I am just in the process of removing the rot, my plan is to restore it to its former glory and have it as something to take for a blast every now and then, but first I need to get the bodywork sorted.

I am new to all this and not really sure what to do regarding creating the replacement panels etc,

Got rid of my suzuki swift when I felt behind the bumper and came away with a 3ft section of bumper support, rest of the body was fine but the engine bolts were so rusty you could'nt tell they wwere hexagon shaped.Bought and still running a 09 swift now.

The rest of it seems ok just certain sections of the floor pan and sills, I like them because they are Light and the engine Revs to 8500rpm haha

These were quick little cars in there day a few of the guys from my collage had these when I was younger. Wasn't much between them and the ax gts I had. Very rare wee car getting. Good thing is at least they kept making them into 2000s odd so could maybe pick one of them up as scrap to use as a donner for parts

The GTI Stopped in 1995 but the shell is the same up until 2002 so some people do a complete Re-shell on them but I am hoping to save the original one as it seems to be just the Sills, I have had ago at welding this afternoon

Yeh sorry mate that's what I meant, you could use a newer she'll to cut sections from.

Well my new helmet arrived this morning so should have some better vision now I am not using the cheap old thing that comes with the Welder, Big thanks to Steve as Weldequip helping me sort the correct one and for a speedy delivery
