but what's a rose joint please?

Rose joint is a trade name for a specialised type of spherical bearing. They are widely copied nowadays and would be good for your purpose, you can get almost any size with male or female threaded fastening.

The trouble with IFS is going to be that is rolls in a corner allowing your trike to lean out, which is a bit counterintuitive...

With a tadpole (two wheels at the front) at least the steering can still be designed to work that way, and with bicycle width tyres, then keeing the contact patch on the road isn't such an issue.

Either of Alan Staniforth's books, "The Race and Rally Car Source Book" or "Competition Car Suspension Design" will give you a grounding in arriving at something that works and lots of photos, along with explanations...

I've been using Car Builder Solutions (www.cbsonline.co.uk) and they have "Rose" joints for about five or six quid each. Not aircraft quality, but...
