Last time I looked for a uk supply for a switch they wanted stupid money for them !
As these switches are common in industry there should be a supplier that has an equivlent. There may be a switch model/part number on your switch and as that link says they may be able to recomend and equivlent. There is probably a unit on some trading estate somewhere in the uk that has shelves full of switches of this type and someone with a lookup book for equivlent replacements.
Failing that it's ebay for a "spares or repair" type machine with similar switch for prob less that a new switch!!

cleaning

no one has said any thing about trying to clean the switch
strip it clean the internal bits if you do try to take it apart
do it in a big plastic box so no bits escape
take plenty of pictures as you do it for reference

Hi mike,
Yes, he was surprised that there were so many connectors. It does seem needlessly complex to me, too.
There are 15 of them, each individually numbered when I took them off. That said many of the terminals are, as you say, common, rather than the wires being double. Which means there are 5 common connectors + 5 single connectors on the switch.
I'm not sure how this helps me when choosing a new switch, though!

The cleaning idea was the initial route...unfortunately, after carefully and slowly as possible pulling the switch open, there was a tiny twanging noise, several springs and nylon spacers and brass connectors bouncing along the carpet.
I've (probably) got all the bits but, suffice it to say, without the aid of a wizard, the switch is staying broken.

that's why i said only take it apart in a big plastic type box no nothing could escape so a clean is out of the question now

Just looked at his public profile and there's no clue there apart from living in Yorkshire But I know that not everybody in yorkshire works at Techinaicalarc cos my HQ is up there and they don't work for them

Tim Looked back at your 1st post and noted that there are atleast 2 wires that don't go to the main transformer. They are numbered 7 and 8. The only wires that will go to the main transformer from the switch should be solid thick copper wire and should have a braded sleeve as insulation. You need to cut the tie wrap thats holding the bunch of wires togeather. The additional wires (3?) (to the 12 I calculated) may go to a power on neon and a small transformer or the cooling fan or ?....
Figuring out what the switch is operating will/may allow selection of a similar switch.

I can supply a replacement 6 position switch with a diagram that will cross reference the old switch numbers to the new switch numbers to make it easy for you to rewire. The new switch will not have a off position though. You can either fit a seperate off/on switch or wire it so that the machine is on as soon as you plug it in at the mains. either way I am happy to help. PM me for further info.

If he does not reply on here then try searching ebay for mig wire feed motors as he (under a ebay name) is on there.
