My 99 Rav4 35k miles in 2 years half work van/commuter runs like a Swiss watch and has cost me £9 on brake pads since Iv had it
Would gladly buy another in a heartbeat
Yeah, but are the new ones built to the same quality as the old ones ? Doubt it.
No idea but would be interesting to see
Mines a 2.0 Petrol and has the hottest heater Iv ever had in a car plus the coldest air conditioning
It was £400 when I gave back my heap of Jabberwocky amarock the most under powered poorly built 4x4 in the world
Our 15 year old / 168,000 mile Skoda get abused by wife but has never broken down or has a serious fault - just routine things like brake overhaul, clutch, etc. Still on original exhaust !Korean stuff ? Sister has one, a kia i think and its given no grief.
Is the amarock something else with a vw badge on it ?
Surely that was a Friday afternoon job and knock?Just seen this on Facebook, it's a 2017 mustang

It's the internet that makes cars unreliable these days.
In the old days you may have known someone who had some problems with their car now a quick google search will appear that every single one of a particular model is riddled with problems. That's because 95% of people only join a car forum or page because they have an issue.

My lad had an Amarok....he loved it...it was very powerful...maybe a different engine

All the manufacturers are cutting out models, all cars to be 5 door etc.
The emissions criteria is ridiculous, it’s now at the stage where mpg & Power is suffering to meet NOx emissions.
Engines have got too much boost, too little displacement, they have to rev too high to make power = reduced lifespan.
Look at the Ford Fiesta Sigma engine. They sent the 1.2-1.6 Zetec, off to Yamaha, all you had to do was put oil in the engine it was that reliable.
Stock they were 105bhp. You could take them to 140-160hp on stock internals just switch to ARP studs.
Manufacturing is analysed in 10ths of a penny, there’s going to be shortcuts taken.
Also, everyone can afford a BMW nowadays what with finance, so BMW has to knock more cars out to meet demand. That equals cuts, cost saving, shortcuts.
Mazda is just a Ford made somewhere in the East.
Hyundai and Kia. Those will be the reliable motors now.
My Hilux engine was bullet proof, 3.0L, 171bhp. Sounded like a tractor but it just worked. It was simple.
New Hilux only comes in 2.4L, stupid little turbo, only 150bhp.
That’s a 2100kg truck, with only 150bhp from a small over-boosted diesel, choked by god knows what EGR, adblue and catalytic converters they’ve stuck on it!
MX6 is the obvious one, did not sell well as a Mazda or a Ford.Mazda has cut ties with ford for some years now. All current stuff in the UK is Mazda Japan = all Mazda design & manufacturer
Though even saying that really most of the Mazda stuff from the past in this country was Mazda Japan not rebadged fords like in some countries. OK the old Mazda 2 was basically a Ford made in Europe BUT generally the Mazda's even when Ford had a stake were generally Mazda's here.
The Mazda / Ford tie up was more a convenience for certain markets. Sometimes a Mazda 323 was rebadged as a Ford Escort (or alike). A Ford Escort was rebadged as a Mazda 323 (or alike).
Apart from the odd car generally it wasn't like the VAG system.
