Indulging in gluttony.

A week ago I made a new hole in the waist belt, a couple of centimeters smaller. One meal a day and I have enough energy to vigorously move my arms with a heavy iron.

Last time I wasn’t the states, spent the first week in deepest farming country Illinois, eating out in the kind of places that had sawdust on the floor and a parking lot full of f150s. Food was dirt cheap and great. Then went across to Kissimmee to work for a week immediately after, first afternoon there, at shut down time “ oh we all like to go eat dinner at local bar just on the edge of the airfield, it’s really nice food, you’ll love it”

It was an English bar . Food was nice but not up to the level I’d had so far! One nice surprise was that soft drinks were bottomless. I made the mistake of returning an empty glass to the bar as we were getting ready to leave, and it had been refilled by the time I turned round

My parents used to by 1cwt bags of cereal, porridge, flour etc from a local cash and carry in Bournemouth when we were kids in the early 70s - simply cheaper in the long run.

Although I've been travelling to and working in the US since 1999 - whereas there used to be quite a lot of large people . . . now it's the smaller people who stand out as unusual. But look around in the UK . . . not so different here these days.

Walmart is out of the gun trade in most if not all stores, just ammo now.

It’s a decade or so since I was last in one, I quite enjoyed how cheap stuff like jeans and T shirts were. 3 decent quality T shirts for ten bucks, or jeans for $8 a pair, what’s not to like.

I believe that for this abundance and low prices, someone pays extra without knowing it.

The “kilometers” of shelves of sweet soda in supermarkets amazed me most of all in the USA + Disgusting coffee everywhere. I guess it's dust from the floors of coffee factories. Starbucks has just arrived in some places.

I do like the breakfast in America.

Wasn't a fan of the evening buffets though, too much choice so everything was more or less lukewarm.

It's like that in Costco in the UK. But when I see food adverts for 'Empire State' burgers it puts me off ever buying them. . Anyone ever watched "Man v food" on telly, just disgusting....

I do like the breakfast in America.

I wasn't impressed with grits in Texas!

Food seems very good in general though...especially sea food.

I can't fathom why so many on here voluntarily travel to the US with all the bashing I hear.
It must be just a horrid place eh ?

One thing that I find very odd, is people always complaining about high gas prices, yet
you find them leaving the engine run while they go shopping. It's been happening as of late
in my northern town, apparantly 72f is just too much for people, the same that walk around in shorts, tee shirt,
and crocs even in the snow.

Christ you’ve some chip on your shoulder sometimes fred. Lighten up, realise that america isn’t the most amazing place ever seen, and people might have some negative views of it from time to time and your life will be a lot happier

I'm never one to push how great america is, there is no chip here.
I'm frankly embarrassed about allot of it.
Go back and READ my postings, never once have a shoved any pro america stuff.

But the incessant bashing is a bit much eh ?

Last time I was in the States travelling around, I decided to go to a Denny's for breakfast, I ordered Ham and Eggs, what I got was 2 massive gammon steaks, a couple of eggs, Grits ( you can keep them and feed them to livestock) and a stack of pancakes plus syrup, and endless coffee. I didn't have to eat for the rest of the day though.

I drove 100 miles to seek out Wenslydale cheese.
It's not bad, bought it a couple of times since.

They doo offer much smaller meals you know.
You must have ordered the "main course" or some other such house special.
Not everyone is a pig/glutton.
I don't do "buffets" for this reason.

I'm sure all of us have made a wrong order when confused at just what you were going to get.

I had the opportunity to move to the US 10 years ago...I really wish I had taken it...but it was NYC and that put me off.
