Supermig 150 or 180??

Hi All

Im new to this forum but have been looking through the threads for sometime now and has been a great help and everybody seems really helpful.

I have been interested in learning to weld for many year for use on my own VW beetles. I now have the facilities (garage at the back of my house) to finally learn and put my welding to practice. I am now ready to buy my first welder in order to undertake all restoration tasks on my beetle project. My question is do i go for the Supermig 150 or pay alittle extra and buy the 180? Im would like to buy a welder that is capable of undertaking all aspects of car restoration including chassis repair on VWs and possible american iron. Would the 150 be powerfull enough for this job?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Both the 150 and the 180 have the capacity to do the work you describe and both appear to have a 30A minimum output. Personally I'd go for the 180 given the choice, you can always turn a big welder down, but you can't turn a small welder up...........

Thanks, would the 180 be ok on a house hold electrical supply. Will this be ok on a 13amp plug.

You'd be OK from a 13amp supply on the 150 & for 3/4's the range on the 180...probably pop the fuse at full power though
