Weld on bullet hinges or flag hinges are probably what you are after.

"High strength" is a fairly nebulous term. The boom pivot on a 40t excavator is high strength and is a type of hinge.
Another approach would be to go and find some pictures of an Edwards folder, see what they did and copy it.
As above, strength is only one of the considerations. Slop in the hinge will not lead to a good fold. In general, some free play in a gate hinge is tolerable.

those are cheap enough... buy a load, pull the pin out the middle, weld them on then run a rod through them?

You can’t really have hinges along the length, as they’d have to sit on the centreline of the fold, which is where whatever you’re bending needs to be.
the hinges are half the project ,,, and the top clamp is the other half , the rest just falls into place ,,, if you dont have a lathe ,, two bits of plate and some bar will do the job as well , maybe not as tidy , but it will get you there

Interesting, but they look a bit of a Heath Robinson way to do the job, though I can’t think of any way around it myself.
