I disabled the auto throttle on my Honda as I was worried about either damaging the welder or damaging the generator when such a surge came when the wire hit the job and the amperage cranked upYes, I was thinking that Jim, you're correct. But I'm pretty confident the bullet proof power supply (transformer/rectifier) should cope with the power coming up when I hit the wire to the job. Got to fix the idle circuit first though, it's still not right...
Another option is a 250w 110v inverter buried inside the weldanpower.
