Hi all,
just to give back to the forum, heres a quick guide on a supermig 180/1 polarity change..It's rough n ready but does allow an easy change back original polarity for gas..
There's 2 wires in the trigger,
1 goes to the rectifier, in my case it is the red wire, the white wire is connected inside the liner somewhere to the torch +
Cut this wire that goes to the liner and replace with a new wire directly from the positive side of the rectifier, this will power the switch from the + side of the rectifier instead of the postive of the liner and torch..
Cut the heavy cable that goes from the rectifier to the torch (there is enough length in this cable to run it down to the earth clamp cable after..
Cut the metal sheathed cable that goes from the transformer to the earth cable and switch them..
I left a bit of the flexible earth cable on to make the switch back easier..
That's it..
Hope this helps anyone looking to do the same to this machine..
This does make a difference to the weld for sure..Less spatter and better penetration...
Top is unchanged polarity, bottom is negative polarity..Nowhere near as good as argon but it'll do me for the small repairs I need to do..
Thanks again for the help with the PCB repair and previous post from tipper56 on swapping polarity..
