Hi I am doing a garage base at back of house 5.1 Metres x 9 Metres minus pit area, I am interested if anyone has hired concrete pump and how much you expect to pay.
Its about 4.5 Cub/m Thanks for any answers.

Have you tried your company supplying the premixed concrete? often they have pumps, conveyer systems etc for and they just add them onto the vehicle or send the wagon out with that feature fitted for a small fee on top of the final delivery price. Then you don't have to worry about cleaning them and taking back to a hire company when your arms are made of sphagetti and you just want to go sleep...
If you see a readymix wagon driving down the road and it looks like its got a small crane folded on top these are the articulated conveyer systems.

I have seen the conveyor systems but they will not reach to my base....I will measure it tomorrow. ..I did think about trying to see if I can get a skip loading dumper up the side of my house.....

It is hard work with mixer and barrow.
However, what you save on readymix per cube will pay for your roof and maybe build a door.
Readymix is great when punters are the ones paying for it.

that depends on how much u earn and how much free time u have. id rather pay more for it and get someone to do it cash and work less as i can make more doing my own job

I think the OP maybe has more time on his hands, though not energy and strength? When a lot fitter I still did all that work on my house myself. I just put my own business roofwork back a bit. I got my own house work done to a high standard and the work that was in the bag was still there to be done. I never viewed it like I had "lost" money. I get your point of course.
Free time, is when you take the missus out for a meal. That is the only time any of us nutcases on here are "normal"

Readymix can also end up being not much more expensive and made to a consistent spec and better mixed etc...

I have found that if you are a good bit from depot in an outlying district, it can be be twice as much per cube. Delivery kills it.

I have a lot of time on my hands as currently seeking work. ..I have thought about going back to collage...I don't no what I am going to do work wise...as for the base..am waying up the options ...could possibly be the mix me self route once I calculated roughly what materials I will want...

I had 3 concrete pours here and mixed loads by had refurbishing this place plus building sheds.

You pay for unused space in the wagon, pays to shop around, last pour was 300 cheaper with a different firm simply because they have different size wagons.

The house under floors were all hand mixed and barrowed in. With labour etc would have been same price to pump it.

The self leveling floor in the house was pumped, took 20 minutes, 65mm thick, over the heating pipes, money well spent, floor is spot on, no powefloating or anything. Worked out cheaper than getting it hand screeded.

Have you considered ready mix plus a powered barrow or two?

Without making more confusion , what is you finished floor / damp course from ground level ? I have carried out several contracts where we used 3mm steel pressings , which I can add a pic off . Followed by 40mm mezdec board , same as the usual 2400 x 600 chipboard tongue and grooved but thicker . This was for plant rooms etc . But you will need a air gap clearance to ground level .

Wow! You can forget my advice then. Ball park has changed since I last done it.
I did get 10 ton ballast from local quarry at cheap price and bulk tons of cement.
No wonder people put mono bloc down (yuch). At those concrete prices I have a grands worth of concrete on my driveway. Then a 2" granite screed on top. I even have about 4 cube down in garage strip foundations!

Right.....this is what I have worked out so far...12x24x6 base...5.33 cubic yards is about 9.81 metric tonnes of concrete ready mix. ........it's 35 meters from the front of mine to the start of shed base via an alley way that's 1100 wide.....

Hi..i will be using a six inches slab ...polythene under slab plus 100mm sub base...

If you dont need to have a concrete base for strucural reason , screw piles or similar are an easy solution , we used a company to "fit " them , using an air hammer / driver , they are a structural design and are basicaly large screws , like an archedes spiral segmented , which we fired our frame on top which consisted of 3mm pressed channels , bolted together to create the frame , you can easily source these made to size and are easy enough to carry and fit .I have attatched a picture from a website , giving you an idea of what it is , except they show it with a timber base .

Depending on ground conditions you could dig several pad stone locations instead of the screw and create conc pads , build up needed height in 7n conc blocks and then work up from there .

http://www.metsec.com/purlins/mezzanine-floors/ . you fit effectively a perimeter beam on the pads , which you then infil with the channels ,and brace with studding . you can then fit insulation inbetween if needed .

Your concete doesnt need to be 6 inches thick, 4 inch with fiberes , rc35 or farm crete will do. Use more subbase though. If ordering subbase the price varies depending what you ask for,

For example if i ring up and ask for type 1 subbase, a 32mm crusher run its 19 quid a ton in 20 ton drops, 20 ton dont go far. But if i ask for 40mm crusher run its 12.50 a ton, guess whats under all my concrete and up the drive.

20mm gravel and sand are the same price st 23.50/ ton in 20 ton drops.

I collect 3 tons of 20mm to dust from our local quarry (limestone) to use as ballast for concrete making and it's about £60 including vat so £20 a ton.
