Used miller on ebay or like oddball says, Portamig 181, 20-185 amps and takes 5 or 15kg reels. Portamigs are built to order in the UK though so about a 2 week wait.

He tried to sell me his 5 year old fronius tday for £2000 a tad steep me thinks...hmmm
£500 pounds gets you lots of migs .
just read the forum rules and not allowed to advertise but you should be able to get a SWp weldstar 185 for that . advice for you all tho if you looking for a good mig get the lowest open circiut voltage you can with copper windings , full wave rectification and and copper choke .
Drive roll assembly should be proffesional as this gives the smoothness of the wire feed .
also look for a good warranty.
lorch, migatronic , fronius, ine are all three years .

Not likely to find a new 180 amps Lorch or fronius, migtronic for under 500 quid. Lorch units are top quality but you pay a premium for such quality machines, if you can afford the extra then go for it and get yourself a knock out machine.
Sounds like the portamig is a good peice of kit.
But i like to check out every thing before i part with my money. I found a Sureweld Monomig 181 Mig Welder for a good price and wondered if anyone had used one?
I have been using a 450Amp sureweld at work and love it.
But do not know what there smaller macines are like?

It looks ok but is £100 more expensive (on the website i saw anyway. Maybe you can get for less ?) has a lower duty cycle and will not weld as low an amprage as the portamig. Thats the single phase model, the 3 phase is even more expensive. Although its plus points seem to be it claims it can weld thicker metal. I know nothing about them though except what i read there, must be someone here who uses one ?

A Portamig 181 is under £500 from weldequip delivered to your door, after being made for you in the uk. Very good quality piece of kit. I have asked Weldequip to order one for me, and i cant wait!:

Anyway, judging by machine specs and recommendations from users I reckon it's the best you can do for under £500.

the monomig looks very similar casing to a telwin machine, so it may be made by telwin and badged as sureweld
