Sub Contract work Rates

I have just had the opportunity to get some sub contract work welding Ali Extrusions.

Pieces are Extruded Guttering and some pipe.

Guttering is 2mm pipes are 1.3ish mm
all need mitred joints .

What ball park figures can I charge ?
Numbers wise they are looking at 150 pieces at a time..

get some sample pieces make one up then whatever time and material u can work it out and times it by how many u have to make

yes done some test pieces for them,I would say each one takes 10 mins tops .
6 an hour, was thinking £40 hr .

a decent hourly rate + materials factor in rent rates lighting any overheads dont over do it but dont undercut yourself nowt worse than having to do loads of work for peanuts

Yes they want good quality welds also so they have to be neat.

id say work out what you need then what you would like and then discuss it with them, obviously you cant go below what you need so anything above is a bonus

Pricing is often the hardest part of the job but having an idea what you want/need to make an hour is a good start. I know a lot of people who love to tell you their hourly rate is £xxx per hour...they don't get many jobs though. I prefer to stay busy and 'reasonable'. Will never compromise on quality though even if it ends up costing me a few quid, as one bad job can cost you 10 sweet little earners with word of mouth advertising.

I'd give them a unit cost, based on what you need to cover an hour. That way as you do more you will benefit from the time savings and not them
