hi everyone i received my portamig today finally after 7weeks!
opend the box, asembled it, put on my gas and plug (blue type) atached my .8 wire from my old welder and started to set up the welder to see what she would do! choice of steel was new 2mm
started with low setting and worked my way up untill i get a nice crisp arc.....
well that never happend it just stutters and pulses and every now and again it goes crisp for a second or two then back to pulsing again.
i cant even do a run of tacks as it splutters on first arc then it settles to a constant stutter/pulse.
wire feed its self is constant and doesnt pulse, only when im actually welding.
i checked all connections and the earth lead was loose in the holder so had to get the rubber handle off and do up the grub screw. that didnt change anything
its actually like welding with one of thoes rubbish clarke 100s
ive been mig welding on and off for the last 15 years so im not new to this!
it also makes a funny buzzing noise now and again while welding almost like its struggling. generly when this happens it weld better
i tried it on some 6mm plate and its horrid almost like welding right next to a magnet. changing wire speed is really not an option have to set it just over 3 any lower and it burns back, any faster and it splutters badly.
a few times when ive put the power up to 2 corse and 4-6 fine it trips my braker(32amp)
this is not good. ive read all the forums and have not seen anyone having problems at all. i had to revert back to my crappy old sealey supermig 220 and that welds 100 times better than this portapotty.
can any one spread some light on this problem before i ring steve at weldequip and ask for a refund and buy a miller like i was going to.
sorry if i seem a little narkey im just a bit peeved that i waited 7weeks and purched 700 pound worth of scrap. im loosing faith.
hope some one can help with my bother
matt
