stuttering arc pro 90 mig

Right hope I make sense trying to explain this when I got my mig welder set up with the gas it worked great on an old quarter panel from a rover 200 even at low amp I got good welds nice sizziling sound. Now when I try to do anything now I get a stuttering sound and I can't get a good arc.I have to go really close to get a good smooth weld but it last a few seconds then starts stuttering again. I have replaced the wire liner and contact tip still no difference. I have been welding outside could a slight wind effect my arc any ideas or am I doing something really wrong

Torch tip should be 8-10mm away from the work piece, gas flow has a great effect on arc stability, as i was reminded today when i changed the bottle and forgot to reset the gas flow on the regulator

Could be just about anything from the description. Wind won't help, and if you get a load of spatter and mnaybe bubbles in the weld at the same time as the stuttering I'm with the guys who say lack of gas. Could be worth posting a couple of photos if it happens again.

I have the same thing welding inside with mine and I've drawn the conclusion it's a poor contact to the heatsink on the thyristor that controls the wire speed - wire going too fast cauases the stutters.

For starters you need to clean the metal back a lot more than you have. You can't weld nicely onto dirty or painted steel.

Think its plain and simple, poor contact due paint insulating the arc. To get a good weld on any car body work (believe me its the worst thing in the world to weld), it has to be back to bare metal that is shiney and silver, if its brown and rusty remove it. get a grinder with a flap wheel and buff it all down and re-weld over it and it will be fine
