Stupid Car Insurance!!

insurance is the biggest scam ever. Im 50 and was made redundant and on renewal i discovered i wasnt covered because i failed to notify them i was no longer working, it never entered my head.
My renewal then rose by £60 coz i was unemployed. Reason! coz id be running the roads more where was the money coming from for all this running around

anyway, i added her as named driver, and it dropped from 1800 to 1200

doesnt make sense

I queried that a few years ago, apparently if you are in a stable relationship you are a lower risk

I'm early retired and as such don't use my car for commuting to work. Insurer reduced premium !

Some policies automatically cover you for commuting, so it's worthwhile checking and trying to get a reduction or go elsewhere if you don't commute.

Just been running my details through the comparison sites as it's due the end of the month, got some interesting results....

My current insurer sent my renewal through for £367, they then came up on the comparison sites for £308!! which was the best price I've found.

As a footnote, has any one ever scrolled to the bottom of the comparison lists?, the worst I could find was £2200

i tried getting insurance for a 1986 xr3i, all standard as far as they were concerned, best i could get was 2 grand, and the highest premium at the bottom of the list was little shy of 28 grand...

It's all a scam, the large underwriters have just decided to charge more to offset losses in other area's.

One of the areas they've been making loses is motor insurance... claims have been upto around 120% i.e. paying out £1.20 for every £1 taken in premiums for the last few years. Ignoring the 'we don't your business' 28 grand quotes does a policy cost of 2 grand make more sense when you find out that (from here)...

For example loads of different 'companies' that are really just brand names of the same broker going about things in a slightly different way. When you fit their (current) idea of a safe risk you get a competetive quote (note, competetive NOT necessarily cheap). If you're trying to insure a car that's historically been used by testosterone fuelled youths to cripple their mates and/or wipe out various bits of expensive roadside furniture then cheap quotes ain't gonna happen unless you're no longer a testosterone fuelled youth or have at least settled down or done other things that make you a safer bet. If you happen to live in a part of the UK that's blighted by the 'crash for cash' scams then you're just screwed, especially if your personal data dumps you within a certain demographic

I thought id stick abit into this conversation ,

I find with insurers , they claim that the amount of claims are thick and fast , and the price of insurance goes up to a certain amount year on year , that sounds to me like a perfect cover for making alot of cash , its funny how they claim how it changes year on year , and claim uninsured drivers blablabla , then government lobby YOU must have insurance or you risk you car being crushed and receive 6 points on your licence that will need to be tell to a insurer, and your insurance premiums calculated. i bet insurers where loving that , in fact they probably made sure the law came in , which wouldn't be surprising at all.
you must understand a majority of these insurers are actually owned by the banks , so they have bundles of money , OWER money.

last year , I'll always a friend of mine was dating a insurance advisor , and i said to him , that insurance prices are expensive and i can't afford it (normal stuff) , i wanted to insure my car which at the time was a Cavalier SRI,1993 i was receiving appropriately 5k prices , what a joke, anyway He turned around to me and said don't worry ring me on this number his direct number, ( its a real company i had the site and details) so i did told him all my details and they i received a quote over the phone for 500 pounds , Full comp and bushiness mileage. i said thanks but didn't accept it , then i asked him when i saw him what did he do to my insurance to make it so cheap. his answer was "i he changed the years of no claims to 4 years , and my age to 50 " , i said will you get court , he said no insurers to do all the time WHAT and it didn't stop there , he said he lowered his commission to only ten percent when they usually takes 30 percent well the company he works for does , which i could believe considering how much he was earning and his own car. , i never actually did accept the quote.

About 15 years ago I did some contract work at AON when they were amalgamating insurance companies and spent a couple of days in the motor insurance department. Chatting to one of the friendlier guys I asked him what the basic cost a policy would be for me before all the profits and brokers charges were added and he said "If I told you that you would smack me in the mouth!".

I'm avoiding Direct Line now, they used to be a good company but have become a law unto themselves. When our renewal came through this year (with the next years policy documents!) I phoned them to say I would be going elsewhere saving £105 and asked for my no claims in writing. They immediately issued a policy cancellation notice which I queried as the policy was lapsing to find a £27 charge payable for cancellation which they did not get! They also tried to charge me over £800 for a vehicle we had insured with them previously for under £300.

there as bad as having insurance void , they will slap on a massive premium because they think someone is a really bad person. i cant see how its legal having to admit , either a cancellation or a void or what ever else its called. ,

i hope its been removed and you never had a cancellation placed against your name?

I dont understand it sometimes, im 24, 3/4 years ncb and i pay 600 on a a4 2.5tdi quattro sport!

i live in central scotland paid £237 on my ford focus 2.0 ghia, best quote for my saxo vts(very high risk car) was £250 down from £350 the previous year 27 year old 6ncb on one policy, and 5ncb on the other no fault claims, insurance are c***s, why cant i use my ncb on more than one policy(i did but thats another story).

My best mate similar ncb as me but had 3 non fault claims in the last 3 years cant insure the same cars for less than £600.

i think the regulators for insurance should make a base level cost plus commission then add a DEPOSIT based cost calculated by, age and ncb, type of car.

high risk car younger drive doesnt crash doesnt pay much.

old fart in a low risk car crashes lots pays more

it depresses me seeing how much borrowed money banking services , insurance services , i say borrowed money loosely as it means nothing really , doesn't really exists in this day an age , its just a word to make it seem like you the person think you have something of value to purchase something.

i better go weld something....
