Nicely silver solder by sweating .... a light brass foil on the sides & charge extra , especially if it is a persons name ?

Would solder work on aluminum without having to scuff it up first?
Its a moot point anyway, it was a small subcontract job for someone selling them on again anyway.

You need a very agressive flux and also to break the oxide layer.

You'll melt the aluminium before the silver solder even begins to flow
