Friday and yesterday I removed the remaining rotten fence from left of garden. Lots of ivy too, and lots of chainsaw. Annoyingly one of the first low cuts had a hidden lump of concrete and blunted the chain but easily sharpened. Removed all the remaining lumps and bricks! Why do fence lines always have this rubbish!

Two car full loads went to tip and still a green bin or two left of ivy.

Got a nail in my leg too!

Hoping to order replacements on Monday and get fitted this week while Im not too busy.

Starting to see the end of the Bosch 1103 restoration project.
Completely assembled the gearbox closed it up.
Made a new Speed selector lever similar to the one on my Fein DSK 672.
So little machining included in this video.
I have to finish it up but it's almost done.
It needs little bit of shaping and sanding then I'll cold blue it along with the chuck and chuck key.
I've used 3 other restoration protagonists so I can try to push those videos too.
It seems like I'm starting to go downhill.
I've to admit that I found out to like filing.
I've always hated but I'm starting to love to use a file.
I'm using cheap Parkside made by Suki files and it's actually relaxing.
Plus I'm getting good at it.

Now today I've had to go to my workplace at 8 o'clock to help an electrician to lay down wires and installing new lamps.
Came back home at 2 PM.
It's my first Sunday in the machine shop

Filled up two green bins, so most of it is gone. A stump grinder would bebuseful but instead I have a few sacrificial chainsaw chains and a pickaxe.

The problem with this is its not one single stump, the bayleaf at bottom isnt a huge issue tho we dont want it either.. its a continous row of thick ivy roots the whole way up, and I dont want ivy regrowing after the fence is done. Perhaps I should have used weed killer before I started.

An oily mess.

Spent ages getting very frustrated with an inaccessible oil filter on a boat engine. Eventually get it undone popped it off and spun on the new one, topped up with oil, ran it up, engine off, tea break.

When I came back, I realised as I ran the engine up I was watching the dashboard, didn't realise in the 5 seconds the engine ran it had karcherised oil everywhere, real mess.

Scratched head, looked at filter I'd removed, yep, rubber oil seal missing.

Oh, what a plonker.

45 minute clean up followed.

I completed a last minute rebuild on the Commando the evening before going to the IoM. Took it out for a test drive. I hadn't got more than a couple of hundred yards when the rear end felt decidedly slippery.
Bloody cheap oil filter was made off centre. Very hand tight still had failed to seal tge ring. Queu a prompt return to the garage where another filter was fitted.

Headed off the the island next morning.

A local garage has one of those iseki mini tractors that has had a front and back actors added to turn it into a digger. To support this there is an external chassis added all around the tractor.

It has been there for months and I asked the garage owner what was wrong.
It was left in for a service and an oil leak but there's no access to anything without removing most of the digger bits & they don't have the facilities to do it.

Today has been a productive day.
Straightened 7 car rims at work.
Then at home I've finished to restore all the components of the Bosch drill by blueing the steel bits.
Going to buy another cold blue as I think the one I have is expired, it doesn't leave a nice black finish anymore, it's more blue straw finish.
Tomorrow day off from YouTube.
Assembly on Thursday, editing in the night.
And possibly uploading on Saturday.

I made an LCD gauge to replace the 'fake' oil pressure gauge on my MX5. (On the MK2 there's a gauge in the dash cluster but it doesn't measure anything - it just goes to a reassuring position when the engine is running! There are commercial offerings that do something similar, but they are £££.)

I've got a spare gauge cluster, so I took out the existing oil gauge assembly and modeled a 3D printed replacement in F360. It's in 2 pieces that snap together to hold the display, fits over the old gauge alignment posts, and is secured into position using the same screws as the old gauge.

Doesn't look too bad in the dash:

I thought I could display oil pressure and temperature with the appropriate sensors, so knocked up a dial face in Inkscape that is a reasonable match to the other faces (the colour looks a lot closer by eye than it does in the photo). The 'needles' are generated by the ESP32 and overlaid on the dial face as sprites (I need to re-do them with a slight taper). It works surprisingly smoothly.

It needs to switch to a different display to match the other instruments at night (can be done easily enough with an appropriate input signal):

Just a 'proof of concept 'at the moment - I think it's worth pursuing, so need to read up on suitable input protection for the ESP32 so it has some chance of surviving being connected to car electrics.
