For what purpose? I have a huge cherry log seasoning nicely and some small bits.Cherry bark works great too. I always save it.
Lighting fires. Works as well or better than silver birch bark even when damp. It has volotile oils in tge bark that burn great. For what purpose? I have a huge cherry log seasoning nicely and some small bits.
If you haven't already done it paint the cut ends and any cut off branch stubs with loads of melted candle wax on and two inches or more up from the cut to slow the evaporation down to stop the wood splitting in hears aches .For what purpose? If the ash was not seasoned well ,,,,,,,say 10 or more years it's likely it will split down the grain . My first table lamp base was a similar size seasoned 5 years for the 10 inch wide log . it split in several places .Decided my fingers had survived long enough I thought I'd add wood chippings to my swarf making" skills" ( in the widest sense of the word ) So with the aid of a forum donated horse shoe , thanks HPS's , an axe head and a piece if a recently felled Ash tree I decided that an inverted kindling splitter was the safest way to go. Just a lump hammer from a bit more ash and installing the stove and 'bring on the winter'.

My big bro an accomplished wood turner laughed at me , " You need to slow season at least a year for every inch of thickness & by that I mean the diameter not the radius .
Apparently the ash used for cart wheel hubs was seasoned for at least 50 years before being worked
