I made some progress today on the upstairs bathroom in our 'old house' project. I wanted to install a 'rainfall' shower head, as well as a regular shower head, but the ceiling height is rather low, and I didn't want the shower head to extend very far below the ceiling, so I came up with the idea of mounting the rainfall head directly against the ceiling. To accomplish that, when I was installing the rough-in plumbing, I fabbed up a simple spring-loaded plate to hold the brass fitting for the shower head connection.

After installing the ceiling material (backer board) above the shower area, I just pulled the fitting down and held it in place temporarily with a nylon tie-wrap and a drill bit while I connected the shower head. After tightening the connection, I removed the drill bit and allowed the springs to pull the shower head up against the ceiling.

The shower head is sealed against the ceiling with strips of soft, semi-sticky sorbothane rubber. Just in case the shower head or its connection were to develop a leak, I wanted to be aware of it, so I inserted a small piece of rectangular brass tubing in the gasket. I figured that a leak should produce a tell-tale drip coming through the brass 'weep tube.'

And the final result below, with the shower head pulled up snug against the ceiling. Note: the ceiling is waterproof backer board with several coats of primer and paint. There is a selector on the shower control that allows you to switch between the regular shower head and the rainfall shower head or split between them. The regular shower head is a water-saver model on a swivel, which I really like, since it produces a strong spray with little water usage.

I still need to install the glass shower enclosure, which will be a little trickier than usual, since it's a frameless model, so it needs to be placed very precisely. If it works out OK, I'll post some photos.

For welding the barrier to the feet, wanted it vertical, when we bent the bends in the tubes, you need to make sure everything is straight too, got masking taped to the barriers quite often in the last few days, the quote for replacing these three barriers / balconys, in stainless is €2450.40 , don't know what's with the 40 centimes ???

Finally finished roof, fascias, soffits and trims.

Feels like I've been on this for months it's probably 7-10days work always feels like everything is taking an age lots of unseen detailing.

There is nearly a day in taping for airtightness




Still bits to do on the old house fascias but will have to wait as new doors are now coming. Frame is behind fascia

Yesterday I got this

It's 38mm in diameter. Unfortunately my largest die stock is 1-14"

Cue some scrap hunting. Two old wheel braces, a piece of round bought from a forum member, and several hours machining and silver soldering later, we have this

The solder didn't fully penetrate over a small area of one handle, but we'll see how it goes. I've made a tap wrench before, but not a die stock. I'm quite pleased with the end result.

I’ve always wanted a Cellette body jig but they’re massive and expensive so I’ve repurposed the uprights from a 2 post ramp and a couple mezzanine offcuts to make my own. I did have to splash out for the 200MM castors though.
