Surely building a bomb shelter in your back garden is pretty normal behaviour here.

Nice Anderson shelter by the way, @Martin Hocking It'll look great with a few vegetables growing on the sides. I might even build myself one, seems like the ideal place to hide from the Mrs next time she's on the warpath because I've trodden swarf into the carpet or sat on the sofa in dirty overalls.

The auditor is looking for evidence of design competence. I've just got our company through it now and he was OK with two design engineers having a mechanical engineering degree, and me being CEng. The other way to do it is to design yourself, and get a structrual engineer to do the calcs, they will need to submit competence and indemnity insurance details also.

That could explain why he asked for a copy of my SE qualifications and insurance details then.

I can remember when i was a kid there were loads of these dotted about being used as sheds. Are they worth a few bob now? I suppose time and weather has done for most of them so they must be getting rarer.

They used to be common here in norfolk too mostly for pig accommodation so I’m told.
I don’t remember seeing any growing up in the mild west of London, although saying that there is supposed to be one under a hump in the corner of the family back garden…

As to value, i think it’s condition really. People seem to pay up to a few hundred quid for a shelters worth of the curved sheets (some cheap stuff on eBay lately) but they are almost always missing the bottom foot to 18 inches (like the ones we used). End sheets get chopped about and seem to be harder to find I suppose the curved ones are easier to recognise.

Then you get into where it was made as well.

People sell replicas but nobody seems to make the correct ridge profile so they don’t look quite right.

Basically find a complete one that hasn’t rotted off at the bottom and do a little dance!

So you can do SE calcs but not design? Or have i picked that up wrong?
To be specific, in our case we designed the example structure in house and got a contract SE to do the calcs with separate indemnity insurance... So perhaps they seperate the two facets out?

Oh I did see it, didnt realise how bad it was and was more concerned about the HGV dirt tipper approaching.
Looking at the pic I can see theres would have been space to get the wheels to the left of the pothole..
