Got a beam installed, that was a challenge, 7.7m and about 770Kg so fun moving that about.

The towers are not carrying the load that is taken by the 7x3 timbers, but they do stop it falling over and give me somewhere to stand.
It was that or 100T crane and even that would have been difficult with the trees / house, not to mention a small matter of cost, (the steel was bad enough on its own!)

Just three more steels to go but they are "normal" (i can even pick one of them up :-)), so should go in without having to get the inner Egyptian involved.

Today I made the crappy wood work vise on the small bench disappear

and fitted a nice old Record 52

I cleaned it up a bit and fitted some new h/wood pads made from reclaimed parquet flooring . I did not have any coach bolts the right length so I made some from m10 studding ( a bit rough and ready )

fitted as a dry run

then with the home made bolts
and a bit of a clean up it's not for show .

Tacked about 40 leg frames together and made a strong back jig for the 'Heavy', and modified a carver clamp to suit. This means i can drop a frame in, tighten one clamp with a windy gun, preset a bend, weld it off and it will come out perfect each time, and i don't think i could make it any quicker or easier now.
I've had jig frames before for this, but always used F clamps. This is the first time I've actually put some effort into it. The 'heavy' is actually getting some actual use for once.

Fitted this up this afternoon.

Knocked up over a couple of lunch breaks
Folded 2mm stainless mostly.
Couple of channel feet and a sloping tray to hold the granite chippings.
Bit of a scabby bit of sheet, so decided to give it a quick going over with the electric axe.
Cheapo stainless balls and pump from amazon.

Just need to fit the ip66 socket for it now

Not today but got to a decent milestone. Just a few finishing bits to the structure then it’s the inside to landscape as per Mrs79 requirements. It’s not mine waiting on a batch of buttons to fix the twinwall properly

On Wednesday I received the profile rail I bought from @MattH it is tiny in comparison to the rail I previously had but that was way overkill and was only used because it was free.

Yesterday I drained the water table, shovelled out all the gunge and removed the old rails and fitted the new. Had to make 20mm thick spacers for the trucks to keep the height the same but all went well.

Today I got it all finished, had quite a bit of problems with the Y axis motors again, had to retune them but got there in the end. Pumped the water back from the tank and added a bit more Rocol, ready to use on Monday I hope.

Looks a good job there...should be able to grow winter sprouts now up there in Orkney

Crickey, they are overkill for a plasma with no cutting forces.
The carriages on mine seemed nice and tight still, hopefully should last ages.

Yes, they are about the same size as on the Chiron. They came from an old glass cutting machine and the trucks were knackered but I managed to build 5 half decent out of the 16 I got and found some on US Ebay to get the table up and running. They lasted longer than I thought so can't complain.
The ones I got from you seem to be great condition and run very smoothly and are more than really needed for the plasma

Cheers. It’s not what I usually get involved in it’s a Shetland design which is supposed to withstand gale force winds. The hoops are ex salmon farm feed tubes.

The devil is in the detail - it is not ridgid so it will move in the wind a bit, rather than trying to fight it and eventually breaking.

You buy a kit but they’re stupid money so this is a self build. Only real expense was the sheets

 

[Feet 'n Inches]

This is the first of six occasional tables I'm making for the potters that share space at my local MIS. They'll be topping them off with mosaic patterned ceramic, glazed in a variety of colours. The tables are around 650 mm high with the table top around 420 mm in diameter and the materials are those that I can roll and bend using my hand-driven metal worker.





A case of poor photographer's eye in the first pic - it does sit level . . . honest.

Not just today but over the last few days. I had to move all the wood build the woodstore and then split it all before putting it back. I very sensibly chose the hottest days

So far not a single penny spent just used up all that "it'll come in handy one day" stuff. Should keep me warm for a little while
