Very nice - but the sharp looking ends would worry me. I make a point of protecting or bending over the ends of sharp, or even just small diameter thingies - the number of times I've bent down and the end of an object has just been outside the field of my vision . . . until it contacted my head.

That's why I never leave a 90° corner on any protruding shelf, either. A 45° or a curve doesn't hurt half as much when you either headbutt it or walk into it.

After work I made a festool to Henry adapter .I posted recently that I'd got a festool hoover /extractor but I decided they weren't going to extract any more from me for the lance and attachments, ( circa £100 ) so asked me mate Ian the bin man to keep an eye out for any henry's and

I started bodging I found a 32mm solvent straight was a sung fit on the festool hose and the pipe on the floor attachment was too bad in the solvent but I had to grind out the internal center ring so the festool hose would fully insert .

I cut about 100 mm of one of the carpet attachments

So a decent amount of 5 minute epoxy

and it's held nice voila festool to henry .

so some cheap attachments of evil bay now . Then checking on evilbay some one just listed the full set of kit in a systainer for £33 buy it now

It's alright for a first attempt but I'm not entirely happy with it. I made it in two halves, I thought the solder joint would make a nice midrib but it came out too messy. The joint also broke when I tried to form the sharp crease down the middle and was quite a lot of effort to stick back together, so the next one I'll make from just one sheet. I cut and filed it all and then bent it, I think it'll work better if I hammer the curves into the material first, and then cut the holes, you can see in the last image some of the holes have wavy edges where bending messed them up. I'd like to shape a stem too, the real ones aren't round, more like a "Starfleet insignia" cross section, I didn't see the point in going to that effort on this one so just used some 3/16" pipe.


If anyone knows about jeweller's saws/blades please let me know, I think that would be quicker and easier than doing these holes with shears and files.

I think this is just about finished, that original leaf is in the scrap bin, along with two others that didn't come out how I liked. I've polished the leaves with an 1/8" cup brush, but all the bristles have come off now so I haven't cleaned up the stems or pot yet. Need it finished by Wednesday so I'm gonna have to pay through the ass for Dremel branded ones at Been&Queued. I might texture the inside of the pot with a small burr to simulate soil too.




I think it's gonna tarnish quite quickly, not sure if there's anything I can do about that other than spray it with a clear coat, but I'm worried that'll look strange. A wipe with light oil maybe?

Made some window security few weeks ago for Hay castle,which opens to the public on Friday,so as I now have another rush job there,took photos of them in place,‘‘tis dark and I was oily so daren’t open the shutters restricting details,the long bars had tapered ends where they enter the escutcheons.
The window rectangle is secured by padlocks and simply hook onto eyes,there’s a 3” drop across the 2 windows!
Most of the work was forged.
Had a quick nose around,would have liked to make the staircase,6 flights.
Many homages around,to the late self proclaimed king of Hay,Richard Booth,who lived in the castle many years,all unheated and half uninhabitable to most. He put Hay on the map,starting the second hand bookshop trade.

That is a nice looking shelf/rack unit. I like clean, minimalist styling. From what I can tell from the photo, it looks like good heavy-duty welded construction. Is it galvanised?

No.
The black powder coat was removed with flap discs. Then a DA sander was used with various grades until I had a uniform finish. Then rattle can metal sealer. Finally wax.

Nice to see that place is being restored. Usually have an annual pilgrimage to Hay to top up the book collection

This was for a new restaurant locally,I made false walls in the workshop,(for fabrication)out of ply to the size of the stairwell less a few mm for tolerance,yet it was still too tight a fit,so had to chase a bit off the wall for the tread cleats.

Lidl had some Dremel compatible tool sets in.

I've got the Dremel ones now, they seem to be fairly decent quality so I'm not too bothered. I'm using it in a 70k rpm air grinder, I'm pretty sure Dremels only go up to 35k so it lasted quite well considering. I made another leaf today, didn't realise I was such a perfectionist but I had it on my desk and it was bugging me, the big leaf didn't match the rest, it was thinner, soldered together, the curve along the length didn't look "natural", the surface finish wasn't consistent across the leaf or with the other leaves, and just too big.




New one matches the rest of them a lot better. I textured the "soil" too, looks good if you don't look too closely.

That's what it does say, uses the H for both words and can't exactly make a piece of metal float in place like star trek tech for the apostrophe.
