Strike another item off my Round Tuit list .
Yesterday after making the cat feeder's battery compartment securing thumb screw I finished the strip & clean of a 10 yr old stand alone portable air conditioner unit .
It was taken apart over a week ago , liberally sprayed with " Elbow grease " ( a liquid soft soap that is slightly caustic ) left it on for 5 min ,, then gave things another spray left of five min whilst I modified a Hozelock push in to screwed thread adaptor so I now have an 8 mm copper pipe some 70 mm long , flared at the inside end (my dot punch made a nice flaring former ) pushed through a tight 8.5 mm clearance hole and araldited in place along the internal bit then gently squeezed to free end of the copper in the vice so that after four sessions of testing on the hosepipe the resultant spray I got was a nice 1/4 thick by 1 inch wide jet of water coming out but not too harsh wrt pressure .
I stood the stripped unit on a barrel away from the garage and got as wet as the unit did , by gently blasting 10 yrs of softened crud out from the inside face of the cooling matrix . gave it a gentle rub with an old tooth brush as I sprayed the matrix yet again as there was still a few build up's of ancient dead skin & body grease on the fins , this time the water jet blew it all out .
Did the same to the very very fluff and gunge clogged main filter screen.... this Elbow Grease cleaner is brilliant .
Sprayed on from both sides , left it 5 min then blew it out from the inside face with the water jet , the filter was as clean as a whistle first time round .
Then came to the horrible bit , the internal drip tray & discharge port had over the years grown slime on dust & skin particles etc and it was that that caused me to attempt the servicing in the first place as a big blob of stinky green/black slime had blocked the automatic plumbed in drain off pipe . Fitted with an undersized tube by me

I poured a few desert spoons of the " Elbow Grease " into the receiver, having blocked off the outlet and with a vey long artist's pigs hair bristle 1/2 " paint brush gently loosened all the crud and was able to use the modified Hoselock fitting to flush it out of the tray and out let port under a bit of pressure.
Then came the waiting game .. stood the washed out cleaned up unit in the wet room with our other air conditioner unit on " Dry Clothes' " for 48 hours . Then I stripped of two access /protector covers to see if there was any trace of moisture ...none , so out the the mancupboard to rebuild it .
Plugged it into the RCD protected socket and switched it on...... Whirr ..... off to a good start . left on over night a good four litres of condensate has been produced .
the dehumidifier lives to fight another day.

Just started round here, gobble boxes at full chat behind a similar yoke to yours just up the hill from my house this weekend. They get about 4 or more cuts in usually, not sure they'll manage that this year with fert prices how they are...!
