.... I bet it's a real swine when the ropes start slipping on the job, or fouling the stripper...

Aye and can be dangerous. Where these guys work it is deep water so 3 creels off the bottom at one time, if a rope slips and goes round your arm or leg then that is a lot of weight trying to pull you down to see Davy Jones, bad enough on a nice day but in poor weather it is even worse.

After today holding these big plates in the chuck with one hand whilst I press the button to close the chuck with the other I have eventually fitted a foot switch. I have had it for years but never really bothered with it but I have just wired it up and it is working fine so any more heavy stuff and I will be able to hold it in the chuck with both hands whilst closing the chuck with my foot

Made a replacement pedal (including the crank) for a tractor. This is the same one i made the 3D printed wheel and tyre for. another 30 years and there’ll hardly be an original part left!

3D printed the 2 halves of the pedal, bent, ground down and drilled the crank and welded a washer on the end as a stop.

Original pedal and shaft is on the right. They were attached with some sort of cotter pins. I’ve replace those with Nuts and threaded inserts with a spot of loctite.



Next on the healing bench is the trailer. any suggestions for sympathetically reinforcing this piece before it snaps completely?

I fitted one to my Beaver CNC Lathe when holding spiders for boring soft jaws became an utter pain. So much easier now not just for that but adjusting stock in the chuck. While I was at it I did one for the hydraulic tailstock.

I was thinking something similar but was thinking maybe epoxy and pop rivets so there’s no hard edges for the young‘un to find. would a hard edge create a stress point of failure.

It’s quite an age. It was emulsion painted at one point in the 80s. I’d like to get the glossy shine back but I don’t know how.

If its ABS you can solvent weld another peice to it.

Wasnt happy with the rusty look so turned both sides of the plate.

Vee'd and tacked. I dis t have enough weight on it so its lifted up

~3 beads, middle being 6 strands of 0.8mm filler. All at 200A.

When they make Little Tykes type cars, to get a glossy finish they flash a blow lamp over the plastic (How it's made)

That certainly works for Pet-G plastic but I doubt that it’s true of all.

Load with one of the handlers or digger. Chaser would be nice but a lot of money and we'd still need a handler to stack into sheds, also have some longish hauls so a few trailers suit.
