Way too rusty to get a decent weld on those sheets, anyway I didn't fancy standing in the drink with a welder/grinder so I drilled the sheets from the other side and dangled the manifold over the railings on a rope, captive bolts on the plate I made and they happened to align up spot on

Can't you get Hilti bolts shot in for safely securing things on 15 mm thick mild steel ?

This went out last night... was a 3pt linkage bale spike with a single upright spar for the top link. Now it's dual purpose telehandler headstock and 3pt linkage, and will take 2 big square bales.

I don't think the customer will like the bill... would have been almost more cost effective to buy a new one! but... it is what it is... I did tell em

I done one the same. Yeah more cost effective to make a new one. He wanted 6 spikes, and it was a bit of a pain getting them all to sit cock on. I plasma cut the holes for the weld in taper bits freehand with a jig, would of been better with a rotabroach but they were 60mm or something.

They knock em out in Poland or other eastern european country in the thousands, I'd imagine. £600 to buy a new 2-bale spike without brackets... can't make em cost effectively over here. Or at least... not for what I get out of bed for.

I swear they get the bushes and spikes for less over there too... They're mega money here for proper conex (?) ones. Had to repair one of dad's a year or so back after one of my sisters bfs destroyed it. I swear she just dates people with NO mechanical sympathy!

Hardly 'made'; just some 50mm diameter 10mm thick laser cut steel discs attached to some 28mm OD bearings with a shoulder bolt. Far more secure in the welding table than the bench 'dogs' I turned several months ago soon after getting it.

Pretty heavy those last two days ...
Yesterday morning I've been working at a customer house .
Then while coming back from the ironmongery I've received a call from a friend who I consider a brother.
His father had an Heart Attack , he's like a father for me , and their family is my second one .
Well not to mention that I was there even earlier than their actual family members.
This morning I've been back on the jobsite and replaced some sockets, and repaired a window .
Then in the afternoon I've taken my bro to the hospital to take fresh clothing to his father .
Then back to take his mother and little sister to buy some food at the supermarket .
I've had a video call with his father while driving back ,he asked if I was driving a Ferrari .

Progress with the tank. Basecoat done - withh some defects but sod it, I'll live with it or fix them later.

First coats of clear ( was upside down, just been flipped)

Im happy From a distance it looks perfect. A bit closer you can see all of the midges that started to dive bomb just after the clear. Im now an expert swatter. I was standing there about an hour with heat lamp in one hand and air gun in the other to stop them landing.

Ive been using a little TPMS to get my air pressures, well over spray was ruining it, and polycarbonate is not thinners resistant. Scuffed that up with p800 and gave it two coats of clear, and same with these old safetys, tho that was less successfull.

Finished off the re-tooling of the press brake last night.
This was a modification of the offset punch toolholders by milling 13mm off the faces, to allow the use of a 60mm central die.

Should increase the flexibility of this little 35 tonner nicely... 4 vees from 10mm to 35mm, and I have a set of very knackered 4V tooling with an ok 50mm Vee...
Gives a theoretical max capacity of 2m x 3mm, or 1m x 4mm, as well as very tidy folds on thin material.
I tried and failed to fold some 1.5m x 3mm about 6 weeks ago, because the fixed 20mm Vee needed 40+ tons from the chart. Now it SHOULD breeze it.



Only thing left to do is to chop some of the tooling up into segments

Some welding and grinding today. Ran out of Esab 316 rods so had to use some old Westbrook ones and they are horrible in comparison, first 20mm of weld with a new rod is porous. Not that it really matters for this but...

Anyway, 50mm roller with groove worn.

Turned on the lathe then roughed up with the flap disc, it gives a bit of friction initially but soon gets smoothed with the ropes.

Next up were the two stainless ejector knives I made a year or two back. One had just wear on one side, the other had been reversed so wear on both sides.

Both ground to size.

Last thing for this guy was to alter an exhaust outlet, had to chop at the line.

Then turn some stainless down to make a reducer then weld it on.

Right, just to be clear, I did NOT make this, a friend of mine, his work colleague has. It is a 1/10th scale model of a machine (he did tell me, Goldfish memory me) that indexes and punches the perforations (I am sure there is a proper name) on the edge of 38mm film. I have no doubt that the actual real machines are heading for the scrap bin. The model has taken him ten years on and off during his spare time to complete. If indeed I had made this model I would be positively giddy with accomplishment. I thought I would post it up here because it is such a fine piece of engineering:



It is fully functional.

My L200 has been feeling a bit tired recently and I suspected the turbo/wastegate might be playing up a little so I bought a cheap vacuum gauge from Amazon.
I only want to use it for a few days so I didn’t see the point in making a posh housing for it so I made a redneck one from the Amazon box it was delivered in.

Cardboard, hot glue and duct tape! Job’s a goodun!
