Well, I did tell you....

We also played Wars using air guns wearing thick jackets and metal eye shields with thin cross slots to see thro. minimum range allowed was 50 yards.

Bringing back memories, this.

We were never allowed guns, so the D-i-Y version consisted of going to the rocky shore where we drew lots to see who would be the 'target', who then went to hide behind a large boulder. The rest of us retired to a set distance where we lined up across the seashore.

Said 'target' then had to attempt to escape to a designated 'safe zone' at either side of the shore while the rest of us hurled stones [or anything, really....] at him. Taught you to be quick on your feet and good at picking out which boulder/large stone was safe to move to next....not to mention watching out for 'in-comings' All good clean, harmless fun [and we criticise the youngsters of today ]

Back then you had to be inventive and devise your own entertainment, no XBoxes/mobile phones [not even landlines ]/TVs etc. If you wanted to know if your mates were coming out to play, you had to go knock on doors.....

I'm not saying times were better, just different as you'd expect.

Thing part 4, clamps off and sanded ready for oil and some resin in the cracks and knots. I should have waited for the resin to arrive before cutting the slots but it got delayed. I'll just block the slots where they intersect with splits. Resin arrives tomorrow.

And I thought playing "ball tig" with a golf ball was bad enough.
(Only the boys - girls used a hockey ball. And the sticks: much too rough for us soft rugby players)

I thought I'd caught the 'cushy' number by being designated goalie at school hockey - until one of the opposition fired the ball straight at me. Caught me full in the mouth [I saved it, see...] and I was holding my hand pressed over my mouth with red stuff dripping through my fingers, when the gym teacher arrived and shouted "Don't just stand there bleeding, boy, get on with the game!!"

Loosened a couple of teeth and split my inner lips but no other damage done

We'd heard of equality, but no way were they going to lower themselves to our level.

If removing with stone feathers or chisels.
You don't need to give them lots of welly.

Short hard taps.
Listen for the ring. Then repeat.

Too close to surrounding buildings to use without a full survey, and the rats has eaten my stock

It's amazing though how little is required to crush a rock of this size
