So I ‘re purposed’ a ‘vintage’ tractor seat into a stool type effort for the welding bench. Needs paint.

I’ve had a office chair till now but they always melt! Thought a cast one may last longer. Swing arm was to solve the problem of wherever the wheeled ones are, they’re in the way!

It is a very elegant solution to a problem many of us have. It has given me the seed of an idea that I think will work well in my workshop.

In my head it was combining a load of carp that was in the way into a solution that is vaguely practical Cobbled it together really quickly so its a bit rough I'm afraid. The second reason for not having a legged stool was that cast seat will only get knocked over once......

Those Albion seats have a notched ring under them with a square hole in the centre. I think its so you can have the seat facing whichever way you like which is handy on a thresher. Anyhow, the square hole is a good enough fit for an M12 coach bolt which may be a consideration if anyone else has a similar thought and is looking to get hold of one.

The bike shed forum had a guy customised a CX500 with a tractor seat. It looked ridiculous and a waste of a good tractor seat

Dug that out of the dirt floor of my mates barn! There are another 3 laying about that I know of, probably more if I were to start asking around

Edit, just looked on Ebay and theres one the same as mine for £95! Ive no idea they were so sought after. What for?! I assume they dont have welding benches in Chelsea! And their tractors aren't that old

An electrochemical etching machine.

I used the transformer from an old 24v impact gun charger that had broken tabs, think I wired something the wrong way but I have a deep etch mode and a darken mode, exactly what I wanted from scrap and bits I had already. Only purchase was the box.

Nearly finished, the side plates will be replaced with brass ones I think I may thin the wheels slightly as they are supposed to be on a carriage but I only had train wheel castings handy

had to buy a few bits for this. The soil pipe joint, 12v 100rpm motor, and the wheels. Total cost £25.

It runs and works well but the motor is a bit small and runs hot after a while. It could do with a 24v 60rpm motor if anyone knows where I can source one.

I needed a slow speed grinder to sharpen the carbide blades for hand scraping the cross-slide on my M300. The original plan was to make a nice belt driven shaft powered from a VFD controlled 3 phase motor.

However I deemed that was too much of a project in its own right so set about my 'poor mans' slow speed grinder. Powered from a 1500W Silverline polishing mop, welded back frame and 3D printed adjustable table it performs much better than expected...


Vice mounted.


Diamond disc attached with magnets and pinned.


Vernier angle adjustment.


Table pulls forward for disc change.


Acceptable grind.
