Looking through my unused tooling I found my 32mm shank er32 collet chuck. Problem is the standard ER40 bore is 31mm due to the taper, decided it was worth the risk bored the ER40 out to 32mm. Im measuring 1.5 ten thousands runout along the OD, but the taper is 1.5 thou and needs re cutting... Its chinese, and I need to shorten the er32 shaft by an inch.

Then turned a bolt head into a 16.3mm guide pin for a holesaw.

Just made a plan.
On the next Cat I will be fitting out the skipper asked me to make a panel to house isolator switches, charging relays and volt meters, the latter not in the pic.

The way that was initially talked about would have meant a panel with 4 main mounting screws and then 36 screws to hold the switches/relays.

It was going to look a bit crowded with all the screws in my opinion so I thought I could just make a backing plate and use a couple of screws and compress all the switches between it and the front plate. Problem was when I got the switches they are not square, the sides are curved so that would mean they would be able to rotate slightly and would look terrible. So it was looking like it was back to the initial plan.
I then thought how about making a back plate up and tapping the holes in the switches and fixing them to the backing plate and then just using 4 screws to hold that to the front plate. All was fine until I discovered the relays are 7mm thicker than the switches
So new plan is make the backing plate from 12mm acetal and mill in 3 pockets for the relays.

The switches/relays will bolt to it securely from the back.

Then the whole lot will fix to the front plate with 4 screws which should make for a neater setup and one I am happier with.

Finally got around to fitting the proper Delkovic silencer.
I'd been using a modified HD Dyna unit for the past year, and had put off buying this one as I thought I didn't need it. Turns out the Delko pipes and collector have an unpleasant wave-front pattern which their own silencer copes with and I had a bit of a struggle trying to tame it with the HD unit.
Not quite finished yet with the mixture adjustment, so had to weld in a bung for the O2 sensor.
Neat and clean freaks can look away now.

It sounds nice, too. I'd got the HD pipe to sound ok, but this is better.

So back to April 2018 I knew a retired metalworker .
He asked me if I could give a look to an engine driven welder that was sitting for 20 years because he was intended to sell it .
So I went there , checked everything ,seeked for insulation faults.
Etc etc etc
Started and used it .
I've ended up buying it a month later ,he gave me an electric metal shear with the engine driven.
Later on the way he became a customer of mine and he also asked me to sell his tools .
Unfortunately today I have been informed about his death.
So today I've lost a customer and a friend .

That's horrible - condolences to you, Memmeddu.
The kind of event that leaves you in a quiet mood for quite a while.

It's nigh on impossible to sell all your tools, when time is closing in on you - I have an inkling how he must have felt.
Letting go of all your tools, is a long & hard decision to make - something I've been pondering myself, as time flies by.
It's just never the right time!

At least he knows you'll make use of, and look after any tools you have - and that'll have made a really big difference to him, I assure you.
Being a steelworker - he'll have experienced" days from hell" a fair few times - and if there was a long drawn-out illness first, he'll at least feel as if he's somewhere better, already.

Drew up the button heads, here is what it would have looked like with the original plan.

Didn't make it but erected, this morning, racking.

I'm sure there's a better way to measure out the ground anchors positions, but hey, screwed to the wall, doesn't even wobble.

Made a 6”auxiliary pulley using my 1943 monarch. Used lump of square as that’s all I had

And we're done. It weighs 1400g, isn't at all comfortable to wear for more than a moment or two even with an inch of foam padding on the inside. Gave up thinking the headgear from a welding helmet could support it, it just kinda hooks over the back of the head.

I did it at 110% scale as that's what the Etsy PDF suggested for a larger head, perhaps 100% would've been ideal.

Learned loads making it as I've never done anything like this before, it was so misshapen before uniting all the parts and beating and bending them into submission!
