Today I (nearly) finished making a new stand for my two monitors for my home desk. It looks like I'll be working from home for the foreseeable future (and possibly part time for ever), so I thought I'd upgrade the stainless steel and aluminium ones I made a few years ago. The old ones can go into work for when I'm in the office.
Made out of offcuts of four different woods with a stainless steel frame and some self-adhesive felt under the feet. About 150 mm high, 800 mm wide and 240 mm deep.

This is what the frame looks like: 20 mm round bar with the ends cut off at 75° and plasma cut 1.5 mm stainless sheet.
The stainless sheet sits in a routed cut-out, which you can see in this (pre-sanding and oiling) underside shot:
Making it produced some very attractive plane shavings!
For contrast, here's what the new stand will be replacing:
and a gratuitous extra photo as I haven't reached the limit yet:
The top has only had one coat of oil so far, so it'll be a few more days before it's actually finished and pressed into service.

I went through this to some extent to make it look better than others, but I only took a year or so to build mine. In the end I couldn’t be bothered with SVA etc and turned mine into a track car
My aim is simply to ensure that it doesn't look like an unsupervised ten year old has made it. I would like to get it registered if I get that far. It would see much more use that way and it wont be track weapon spec either.
After many years and many hundreds of thousands of miles of sterling service my old grp rear marker board finally died last week so it's been retired with honours and replaced with a new aluminium model that I started a while back:
I cannibalised the old board for the marker lights, curly lead, and lanyard, and finished it off with a pair of seriously strong rubber coated magnets on the back so it can be stowed away out of reach of light fingers on the back bulkhead of the cab:
And while it has a lot to live up to, if it covers half as many miles as its predecessor did I'll be happy.

Fair enough. For me the SVA was a pain having to jump through hoops to get your car deemed roadworthy by some jumped up jobsworth, and now the IVA is even worse! Mine is bike engined so more suited to track. What engine are you going to use?
Colin Chapman would approve of the bike engine, all lightness and power.
I've got a 1600 crossflow so it wont be setting any records. It's on the red stand next to the engine crane. As I get older I am warming to the idea of driving a slow car fast. I've got a pair of Carlos Fandango wheels for the back end so it will be all show and no go if I can still get tyres for them. 235- 50 -13.
I'm building with the IVA in mind. There's an extra cross piece between the plates where the shocks attach so I have a decent shelf for seatbelt anchors as the original design doesn't really cut it in that department. Today I've been making and welding some practice pieces for the panhard rod. I'm going to make it adjustable with a jack screw. I wanted to try tigging it but my mig welding is much neater on the small coped joint. The trouble with this build is it is all small fiddly welds on thin material. I might start a thread on this as I could probably do with a bit of advice and guidance along the way.

As always, I started cooking far too late and ended up going to bed at 2am after I'd cleaned up, but it's always worth it.

It's pretty quick with the bike engine and fun 
Certainly keeps an old git like me honest!
I still think the X-flow is a great engine - it was the first engine I stripped and rebuilt - and can put out some pretty decent power. It will make your kit pretty rapid. Just got to keep the momentum and enthusiasm going and get it finished

Made an "extension" for the nut that holds the spare wheel onto my trailer. Wheel bolts on the trailer and van are all 19mm, yet the nut for the spare is 24mm. Welded a tube on the 24mm nut to clear the projecting thread, then a 19mm nut on the end of that.
I know the welding looks awful. Out of practice and welding kneeling on the floor using a torch switch.
Really like that! I have one i've been meaning to do the same to, need to get round to it so i can load 25' lengths on my 18' trailer deck.

Its okay, started taping board back in 1982, before anyone in Europe had seen it. Not fond of sanding it though I will confess that I can get a far better finish than plastering, which I am useless at. Will use tape on the corners too.

Ah tape and joint, im a huge fan of it for ceilings always plaster walls as i find it quicker
