I was fetching my big pipe wrench, just as I walked out a car rolls into my yard. At first I thought it was my dad's uncle, retired plumber, that gave me that wrench when I was young, identical car as his. So I approached the car with the wrench held high. The look of that couple was priceless, no need to say they disappeared fast after excusing themselves for making a wrong turn

Some people don't have a choice I suppose, especially if just starting off but I am lucky in that respect, I have been self employed long enough, I have a good customer base and I only work for the ones that pay no problem and the others get told to copulate in a far a way place.

Over the past few days I've made myself a garden cart.
Although you can buy chinesium ones quite cheaply on line, I wanted one with proper steering geometry.
I can put different tops on this simple frame.

Yup!

The whole front steering assembly can be unbolted and replaced if I want to make a better version. The whole cart, apart from the wheels (£20 for four), was made from odd bits of steel I had lying around.

TBH no
But that's been a my brother customer for a small demolition job
I had to solve some issues derivated from the demolition , and he wanted more and I did what he wanted.
But later on woodworkers ruined my job so I've had to remake it .
Just a face work we might say to don't lose reputation .
But since the first day I wasn't happy to work for them .

Absolutely my father has two big 2½" pipe wrenches in the car full time .
Everybody has something in the car .
Even my neighbors son which is lawyer has a carpenter hammer under the passenger seat
About the couple I believe they were pretty scared

I tend to work for my personal customer base ,no need of much talking ,I say the price the pay me in the moment no problems .
Here the issue born because I'm skinny not exactly athletic , they are always in 3 or more and they thought that they could scare me but they missed to count that I'm little bit crazy and pretty bad when I get angry .
I ain't need to use the spanner , after they have seen it they have understood that was not a good idea .
That's the truth .
I try to refuse to work for this kind of people .
I just need to talk an half to everyone to understand what they want do ,pay or cause me problems .
That's something I understand easily my brother despite he has much more experience than me he doesn't .

Today I put a drawer where there wasn't really space for a drawer.

This is what it looks like:

The upright bits screwed to the workbench top are 18 mm plywood, but the right hand one has been thinned down to 12 mm for about 35 mm depth. When I made my router table recently (out of 30 mm square aluminium extrusion), I designed it to mount onto the bench and arbitrarily decided that it should sit 12 mm from the end of the workbench. It felt too hard to move the router table's 6 mm diameter mounting holes 6 mm to the left, so I just made the drawer support a bit narrower so the router table can slot in above the drawer. It also leaves plenty of room above the drawer for F-clamps to hold bits of material sticking off the end of the bench to be cut off or whatever.

The drawer has very low sides (height chosen as I had some off-cuts in that size) such that the sharpening stones that live in this drawer protrude above the top of the drawer sides:

That skateboard bearing on the bottom is spring-loaded into the block of aluminium (note to self: I must get better at cleaning marker pen off things when I've finished making them!). It runs on the bottom of the drawer. Close-up:

There's a circular groove of about the same diameter as the bearing (a bit like a slot for a Woodruff key) that was cut with the flat part of a rounding-over bit in a router. When the drawer is half-way out, the bearing drops into the groove and locks the drawer in place:

The marks on the bottom of the plywood are there because I used to use that bit of plywood as a don't-mind-if-it-gets-damp-and-grimy surface on top of my bench for sharpening.

The bearing locks the drawer into this position:

Just far enough out that I can use the sharpening stones for a quick touch up of a tool (the drawer moves around slightly, but not enough to affect the sharpening operation and I can always shove my hip against it to hold it firmly in place if I'm trying to do a fairly aggressive grind). I then just pull the handle on the bottom of the bearing down and can either pull the drawer all the way out or push it back out of the way.

I used it this afternoon to sharpen all of my plane blades and it worked really well. Being lower than bench height means that I can lock my elbows while holding the blades, move my shoulders around and sharpen the secondary bevel really comfortably.

Made a start on a lathe main support today, the door was in soak in a bad wrapped in an old t shirt and covered in gun wash, the paint came off easy and now you can read the makers details, not sure if it will become a stand for a bench grinder or maybe a seat yet.

I got this well made plastic storage tub that was on wheels but they had failed so made a wooden platform from so off cuts of 6 x 2 and 8 x 2 and attached it to the original tubs 6mm mounting using PU glue and bolts, it should be good for citric acid and de rusting with a 12v power supply so maybe i can even get an engine in soak now.

depends what steel it is and how quick it cools ive filled a few holes and it wouldn't drill

I brazed a couple of steel toe-caps together and fitted a trio of bolts through them to make a three-legged bowl ashtray.
I'd accidentally created a monster - trying to drill the brazed portion was incredibly difficult.

Did you ever considered to modify a CVT to have continuously variable speed?
