Mhhhh, not convinced by that. I'm sure they have better things to do with their time/duties than shoot magpies - maybe @Migmac could throw some light on the subject? Where my brother is just outside Edinburgh there are plenty about.

As I understand from a friend of mine whose a keeper, their workload is seasonal, a bit like farming in that they do specific things at certain times of the year. Pest control as part of gamekeeping is all about reducing numbers of pest species at critical times of the year to help both reared game and wildlife survive and flourish. Other things occur throughout the year such as heather burning and management, access improvements, building/maintaining pens, etc.

All part of vermin control. I don’t have magpies in my area, would control them if I did. Bad news for song birds of you have Magpies

Do you have any idea why they haven't spread this far North then? I can't believe it's because every single one has been picked off as they fly up country? We literally never see one up here.

more birds of prey? less suitable nesting sites?

i only suggest these because I've seen redkites catching them, and know they only nest in hawthorne trees around here - not in pine

a sparrow hawk been doing a fine job on the young pidgeons living in the old farm buildings here thought it was the cat till i seen it in attack mode , such violent precision

Are there none in Inverness? Cities seem to be plagued by them

not today - last week actually.

4m folding spike levelling board in front of the seed drill I bought a month ago - 0.5m folding sides, were twisted and bent up, they weren't doing any levelling anyways.
They were held in place by 5mm tent pegs!! with predicable results. The toolbar even had spare tentpeg holes to carry spares once the ones in use were bent out of shape

I've heated and twisted the extensions straight (it IS straight despite the picture, honest!) and drilled out the locking holes, made some 1/2" pins which hopefully should be a permanent solution.

I'll find out tonight when I'm drilling 12 acres of barley, anyways

Got this finished today.

The OCD in me says you need to route the LED strip so it does not cross any of the cut outs so it cannot be seen when switched on.

If there was a way to make the supply cable invisible, it would be spectacular.
