Mhhhh, not convinced by that. I'm sure they have better things to do with their time/duties than shoot magpies - maybe @Migmac could throw some light on the subject?Where my brother is just outside Edinburgh there are plenty about.
As I understand from a friend of mine whose a keeper, their workload is seasonal, a bit like farming in that they do specific things at certain times of the year. Pest control as part of gamekeeping is all about reducing numbers of pest species at critical times of the year to help both reared game and wildlife survive and flourish. Other things occur throughout the year such as heather burning and management, access improvements, building/maintaining pens, etc.
