Think laterally. Cut away from the shoulder. You obviously need to position the tool on a rear toolpost and upside down for a right hand thread. You can rattle out threads quickly with this method.
Thankyou for posting that Seadog , I'll have to check that there is enough travel for me to cut from the back of the lathe using my QCTP , I seem to think there is very little extra travel once the middle TP is past the center line .
Like the idea of doing it from the front but on mine running it backwards would like as not see the chuck unscrew














Hot dip heavy galvanizing would solve your painting problem for donkeys yeas far longer the powder coat or caveman painting with fluffy stick … it looks good when it's been weathered five or more years
