Think laterally. Cut away from the shoulder. You obviously need to position the tool on a rear toolpost and upside down for a right hand thread. You can rattle out threads quickly with this method.

Thankyou for posting that Seadog , I'll have to check that there is enough travel for me to cut from the back of the lathe using my QCTP , I seem to think there is very little extra travel once the middle TP is past the center line .

Like the idea of doing it from the front but on mine running it backwards would like as not see the chuck unscrew

In reality however it could actually be a Sea Trout, I had many years experience netting them and although a great many people can't tell the difference there is one very slight distinction and I think yours may actually be one without you knowing

Today I picked up the control cabinet, I had made for the CNC Lathe, from the powder coaters. They made a lovely job and the rest of the morning was spent removing the wiring and control from the old cabinet and then refitting them into the new one.

All went well so I thought I better go and do some paying work, first off I had a couple of packing glands to face off, used a small chuck in the big chuck to hold the gland. I often use this method and it is actually the reason I bought the small chuck.

Then it was chop up some Aluminium sheets and weld up a tray for the back of a van to put the boxes of bait for the creels in, much easier washing out a tray than trying to get the stink out of the van.

First tray done.

Then the second and time to go home.

You can turn it upside down and cut away from the chuck for a right hand thread, just it needs to be the front post that it is in
Caution should be exercised though if your spindle nose is a screwed one as you need the spindle in reverse rotation and the chuck could unscrew.

Of course you can. In my defence, I've been very busy today with my floor project and am completely knackered. It's like doing a 1000 yard hurdle race

Totally failure day
Got up at morning at 5:30 AM (yours 4:30)
Breakfast
Shower
Stay little bit with my family
At 8 o clock a customer should be at home to take me to work for an electrical installation
It came home at 10:30AM
During these two hours I took time to clean little bit my working area at home (because I haven't a workshop yet my upstairs is a complete disaster)
Moving the compressor motor I fall and the motor contact plate and plastic cover being completely destroyed
Go to work ,I attempted for about 3 hours to put a power supply main line , nothing to do broken two liners (an iron nilon cable used to drag the cable into the electrical conduits)
I told to the customer that there was something wrong with the conduits for about 2 hours ,no problems he said another liner broken
Go to home shower , launch and took time to replace my welder power cord
Fitted a plug ,used heat shrink tubing to give more rigidity at the jaws of the plug (the nut that secures the cable in place)
Tear down the welder
Went to the electrical store to pick up fastoms and heat shrink tubing ,I haven't found them so I had to go to the auto parts store , finally found them there
Go to home
Prepared the power cord on the machine side ,no way to fit it
The securing nut on the welder was to little just a pg11 I had to use my scissors to resize the hole to fit a pg13.5 nut
Put into the cable fitted up the fastoms , soldered them ,but I pit to much material so I had to do it again
Fitted a spanner kind of connector to the ground because the housing wasn't grounded
So I ended my working day with a small injury a the finger this morning , being stressed and I had to take medicals for my health , I'm waiting to dinner
Tomorrow I have to get up at 5:30AM go to the olive field to give assistant to the tractor operator because every time he go work there he break something ,the last time he fell down a three to give you an idea
Once home I will continue to work on my welder
After launch I have to go back to the job site to complete what I can't did today

I need a roop
Hopefully tomorrow will be a great day but as always no-one talks about money so tomorrow I will probably kill someone

Ive got a leak from a side window on my car, so Ive finally got round to fixing it. it looks like the lip had rusted away. the repair was mig welded.

so the inside of the lip was done first

then the lip was replaced. rather than using thin metal spot welded together, I just use a piece of 2mm thick steel, shown after dressing with a carbide burr

and then the outside was patched up

now I know it doesnt look too pretty, but I want the car to look like its rusting away so I'll paint the part where the window seal goes with epoxy primer and the rest with cavity wax.

Went out and checked my he 1943 Sphere lathe ( almost the same as an Atlas 110 F USA) . Even if I took off the QCTP I could not mount the original lamp post tool holder far enough back when the cross slide it furthest back to get a cutting tool in enough to cut any thing but 1/4 or less thread if I'm lucky .

The MOLO for the machine states cut rh thread to the head stock and lh threads to the tail stock . What they do say is set the belts so the spindle speed is 28 RPM , they reckon that is ample time to disengage the half nuts on a rh thread … Also say's , "With experience up to around 1/3 of the materials cutting speed can be done fairly easily " .

From the USA engineering site I do believe some genius has come up with a modification that stops the chuck unscrewing in reverse … thing is do I want to change the antique machine's antique quality by doing it when I can't use the facility in any case ?

Hot dip heavy galvanizing would solve your painting problem for donkeys yeas far longer the powder coat or caveman painting with fluffy stick … it looks good when it's been weathered five or more years

Pack of ten mirrors don't last a month around here Mr String, the local council cant afford to maintain roadside trees/vegetation so they let the trucks beat it back.

That's a lovely bit of wood, make a nice feature in a large garden. Our men's shed would get that planked & use it to make furniture.
