Made it harder for Santa to get in. The judgemental swine doesn't even bring me coal so stuff him..
I remember as a kid making a big fuss when they blocked up the chimneys in our house - how was santa going to get in?
They ended up leaving a window open on xmas eve so he could climb through that.

Rained off of the job I'm supposed to be on today, so stayed in and did some stainless...
Customer supplied one to copy that they had made...but was rejected on an audit- not supprisingly!
Developed and cut out in one piece, seam kept to the shortest join, on a flat face so it's easy to polish out and stretch.

I think he person who did that should go to spec savers and also should get some shielding gas.
@Hood yes that does look a bit windy, you would have to have an issue with salt spray in the workshop. That is a fine VW transporter for welding equipment, tools and your floor looks like mine at the moment. I need to get me a mobile crane like you have, they are lovely bits of kit, I JUST WONT ONE. Santa did you hear me pretty please. The kids have also put in the santa wish list, they don't want they need dirt bikes

Here's something unusual I've had to make, or at least modify. My lathe has a giant ohmite wire-wound potentiometer, actually two of them linked together. They are from 1942 and wound in a very particular way to control the speed of the DC motor.
One controls the armature voltage, it has resistance wire for the first half of the sweep (to increase the speed from 0-850rpm) then normal wire for the second half where field weakening takes over to increase the speed further. The other is the opposite - it controls the field voltage and has normal wire for the first half of the sweep (to give full field voltage) and resistance wire for the last half to gradually weaken the field coils up to full speed.
Because the lathe is used mostly in one speed range, sometime in the past the resistance wired for the armature pot have worn out and had to be re-wound. Someone had done a lovely job of it but unfortunately used normal wire. This meant that the speed would go from 0-400rpm then jump to 800rpm. A bit annoying to say the least.
Because I fitted an electronic drive for the DC motor I only used this pot as a 0-10v reference for the motor speed. I couldn't use a normal pot because it needed to mimic the operation of the original ohmite. To get around this I hit on the idea of modifying a £20 Chinese wire-wound pot of 1kohm.
My first idea was to simply short half the turns by bridging them with solder. Seemed like a good idea except that I found that no amount of trying would get solder to stick to that wire. I used emery to clean it up and solder flux and a big soldering iron but it just didn't work. In the end I had the idea to use 1 thou shim stock to bridge half the turns. I cut out the crescent shape and shaped it over the wire, then just suer-glued it on top of the windings. I couldn't get a good electrical connection at first but once i ground some ceramic insulation away and used a picnh-bolt to get a solid connection half way round the winding, it worked exactly as intended.
I also had to modify the chainwheel and make a small hub to turn the new potentiometer. Was easy enough to do then I made a sheet bracket to mount it all on, with adjustment slots to get a nice fit-up
Now I can enjoy using my lathe with a full variable speed range instead of an annoying 400rpm jump.

(Yesterday) I made brownies;
That's all that's left this morning, there was about 3kg of them in a 200x300mm tray.
I also made ten pizza bases yesterday (2.5kg, kneaded by hand so I didn't break that Kenwood Chef
), went down very well.
Actually, now I think about it, all I've really done this week is cook, uni work is boring me.
Cheese filled garlic dough balls;
Also made Onion barjis and a curry called Sali murghi, (Google it, very nice). Oh, and chilli jam, four jalapenos and one scotch bonnet to a jar, it has a bit of a kick, in a surprisingly refreshing sort of way.
