well at least u haven't spoilt it by making it look new and out of placeits quite hard working your way down using smaller slates at the top and getting down to the larger ones at the bottom time consuming sorting them

Jeez, I only got half way down the roof... I didnt think anyone had seen that..
The little roofs either side are on the point of falling in. Imagine how much worse it would look with a good roof either side..That's stretching the term "rustic" a bit.
It's called random slating with diminishing courses. When serving my time we spent days sorting slates with a sizing stick and dressing them before we got to grips with a roof. Many jobs used good s/h slate. The best stuff like Green Peggies Heavy Scotch and Welsh plus Burlington, looked fabulous once done like this
It was a way of using everything up but it does look pleasing on the eye as you gaze goes up. It makes a lot of sense as well, because you don't need just as much cover as you go up the roof. Accumulation and leaks are worse at the bottom of a roof of course. Nor is it good practice to have big heavy slate at the top of a roof where more wind catches them and you have more wear on the slate at the nail hole, due to weight etc.

ok I do know
I did re slate my house myself and its big . what I should have said is start with larger slates at bottom and work your way up using smaller as u go

haven't got a picture of the finished article but i do have some pictures of me making a heavy duty can crusher to make light work of tin cans.
its since had a linkage made between the handle and the crusher flap.
just need painting now but i will try and get some pics of it once done.
its the thickest metal ive ever welded and was quite pleased how well it went together.
ive still got a lot to learn about preparing for heat warpage
i was quite surprised how much some bits bent with the heat

Good morning gents.
Seem funny as to some mulching / chipping done over the weekend, as have done some my self
customer took a video of the tree falling, low and behold it landed perfectly, right where it was supposed to, much to the dissapointment of the onlookers. They expected some carnage and house roof missadventure.
Yesterday spread out the mulch generated at the site and today with the help of the kids split the larger pieces and put it through the chipperhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG4ZU0fEuF0&t=9s
As can be seen it is hard to drive with a 5.5yesr old in you way. His brother also 5.5 was better at feeding the chipperhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL0h6UIq3l8

Ok, don't laugh but inspired by Jodie on welding tips and tricks I have made my own scratch start Tig foot pedal.
It's made out of scrap and a bit of pallet wood but it works as an on off switch for the arc. My plan is to add a Microswitch and solinoid for the argon supply so I can have some post flow and even more cables and pipes to trip over.
