i had a gs 850 shafty, one of the best bikes ive owned, reasonably quick and comfy.

Headed down to the workshop at 3:30 today as I needed to get a shaft made for Monday and also get some bits cut/made for the Cheetah Cat, also for Monday.

First off I made a quick bush to support the shaft.

Then bored out some soft jaws to 1.3/4"

Put the shaft in and drilled a centre. As you can see there is quite a bit sticking out the back of the headstock so RPM's had to be fairly low.

Cut the thread. 1.25" BSF

Then the taper.

Shoved it into the Chiron and cut the keyway in the taper end.

Birled it around and cut one in the straight end.

Then moved on to making a guide for the Cats steering to stop it rotating. 3" X 3" X 1/4" Alu with a 21mm wide slot.

Also made a guide pin, 20mm dia with flats for a 17mm spanner and tapped 3/8 UNF in the end, also cut some 6mm plate up to make a battery box for the Cat.

Then home and a nice plate of Scampi and chips for my tea which I am scoffing now

She just loves pink, and I must admit, I do like it better than some of the over the top decorated ‘rhinestone cowboy’ rigs I’ve seen. It will also really zing worn over the all black cowgirl outfit she plans to wear at the next club meeting.

It’s also been designed by yours truly to be as lightweight as possible, being about half the weight of the standard buscadero rig.

I suspect a lot have a tool, what is old and abused and gets used for everything apart from it's intended use.

I am guilty. I have a screwdriver, no handle, bent covered in paint etc.

Well in another fit of madness. I cleaned it up



Here it is, after attacking with a wire brush and the proposed handle.
It is a WD pattern screwdriver.

The tip was still hard and was dressed with a stone. After the abuse I gave it it was just the tang what needed a belt with a hammer.


I choose not to use the first handle, as this withy wrapped was located.



Heated the tang up, rock sulphur in the hole and taped in.
This "White foam" has never happened before. The stink was terrible. But it set hard and was easly removed.



Fitted and waxed.




Unreadable makers mark, Sheffield can be made out. Pusser's Crow foot and a date of 1943.

Not much worth showing today as it was mostly snagging work on the Cat. Did get back to the workshop about 4pm though, unloaded the welders out of the car then made a fire hose bracket up from some 5mm Alu. Plasma is great as it was easy to cut the boats name as a nice touch.

When I look at your work, a little voice in my head yells “we are not worthy!”.

My contribution to wot I made today is this leather maul. It’s big and heavy, and great for hitting things really, really hard.



And my discovery that I think I might need a milling machine. Lordy, I made a real cod of cutting the plastic, but happy with the aluminium spacers I turned. Second one will be better.

I try and do my best and when my work is appreciated I try to go the extra mile. The young guy that has the boat is appreciative and likes things to be done as best they can and isn't frightened to spend the money to get things the way he wants. People like that make it a pleasure to do your best.

Yes, it gives you an incentive to do as well as you can. I have a few that treat their boats like crap and try and get by with the minimum of maintenance and work, I find it hard to be motivated but I still try and do my best even for them as lives can depend on it even when they themselves don't value them.
