At work at 5 this morning doing some repairs to our plant trailers, new section on ramp new and new sections for the bucket rest. Welds probably not the best looking, I'm no welder. Stuff like this will end up being cut out and redone in a few months as they get bent up alot. Alot of the trailers have been patched up and have repairs on top of repairs, best to cut it out and start fresh

Finally got around to build a cart for my big Lincoln mig set.
It has locations for castors to bolt to the front and a rail systems that accepted 50x25mm RHS.
I made a small platform that slotted in and bolted in and welded a axle to it:
Probably need to upgrade the rubbish screwfix wheels though.

Today I made some steering rods and bushes for a Cheetah Catamaran. I had done temporary ones earlier on because the Seafish Authority and MCA were coming to inspect the boat but today I made the proper ones.
First off I made the Acetal bushes for either side, the box section rods will slide through these and they will stop the arms from rotating.
I then radiused and bored some stainless for the end of the steering rods.
Cut and welded up the box to form the rods with the required drop down.
I then turned some 25mm dia bar and put a 5/8" hole through it, this slips over the end of the steering ram and a bolt will go through it and the rod, I will have to measure the ram first before I bore the hole in the sleeve.
I then made up the short adjusting sections and fitted the ends I had made a while back.
Have more rod ends to make for the next Cheetah which should be here next week, these ones are phosphor bronze rather than brass. Got the bronze chopped to size but I am waiting on some 10mm milling cutters to arrive so hopfully tomorrow I can get them machined. I did however make the lids for them from 5mm thick phosphor bronze.

A few bits ive been working on this week. Iam pleased with my attempt at a welding positioner. It makes for a much better looking weld on tubular fittings. I might make some sort of foot pedal so i can control the speed of the turn table.

Because my shed heater will be exhausting through the wooden side [unlike some who go through blockwork], and I understand the pipe gets quite hot, I turned a heatsink from a bit of ali round bar.
It was strange turning the bar, it kept 'grabbing' the tool and didn't seem to matter which spindle speed or feed rate I tried - I was using WD-40 as a lube and a selection of cutters. Never had this problem before.
Progress on setting this up is a bit slow, be better if I had a heater and didn't have to keep coming back inside to give my hands & feet a chance to restore feeling.......

I had checked and thought they were spot on centre - compromised sight means that either of the above could have been the case. Having drilled the centre bore, it was difficult to be sure without removing the work-piece and check with a 'pointy thing'.

Do you not nip a steel rule between the work and the tip of the cutting tool? If it's vertical, the tip's on centre, if it's leaning towards the work it's high, away it's low, quick way to get pretty damn close!

I usually set to the 'pip' left after facing off.
I like this idea, that's another thing I can add to the 'I'll make that some day' list, along with a bearing press, welding cart, gas bottle trolley, etc.
One drawback that I see it that you are cutting full depth with the disc all the time which tends to wear the disc quicker. A way of adjusting the grinder height would be an improvement so you can feed the grinder down as the disc wears, unless you have already done that of course!
The hardest part of making that would be finding a straight length of box as your guide rail. Most of the stuff around here is Chinese steel & is rarely straight or square!

May be an idea to put the roof on first John, might then get to check the tool height when it thaws
